ebay... never thought I'd need to ask

I wanna hear OPs story about the actual conversation he had and why it went down to 850 and not 900 ? surely 900 would be the furthest step down..
 
If the buyer doesn't buy you surely aren't stung for the fees on sale if the sale went belly up?

Excuse my ignorance but I've only sold 1 thing on ebay and hate the site but the consumer expert in me wants to know. :D
 
If he bought it for that price and didn't contact you before the sale ended, then I don't know why u let him take £150 off the price. He agreed to buy it at 999 so he should pay at 999.

This. The deal was done. As soon as he tried to haggle you should've reminded him that you agreed on a price and if he doesn't like that then he doesn't need to buy it. You shouldn't have re-opened the bidding.
 
on ebay thats not cool, youv just screwed yourself some massive ebay fees there.... if you didnt mind £850 for it then you should have just put it as the starting price.
oh and your in your rights to say no , and then report him to ebay for not sticking to the sale price.
i wouldnt leave postive feedback just normal - that way people will know that hes a bit of a haggler - which again is not what ebay is about (gumtree is for that ****)! rememeber its an auction house for a reason.

Do eBay charge 10% commission on cars like on other items? If they do, then that's another £100 lost. Perhaps you ought to open a mutual cancellation and try and get the final bid fee back
 
Only once have i ever had a guy try and knock me down on a car he won on auction from me as a set price on ebay and i completely refused stating he won it on x amount and should pay x amount.
In the end he paid in full for the car, i would never ever let someeon haggle on price on auction, maybe on a buy it now but even then i wouldnt do what you did and drop £150 from £999 thats just robbing yourself m8.

Nevermind though lesson learned i hope.

I'd suggest filing a non-payment dispute with the aim of cancelling the transaction on the eBay side of things at least.
 
was your Mrs having her pasty smashed by him whilst you were happily handing over your hard earned cash? - seems SLT (silver tongued devil) has royally enjoyed himself at your gaffe!
