Ive got the chance to buy one of these for £50, how do they compare to the ati cards? Coming from an ati 5870 i know im looking at a performance drop but what ati card compares to the 260 in terms of performance?

Depends

if its a 192SP card on stock clocks then its about 4870 1GB territory - if its the 216SP card with good clocks then its closer to the 4890 - tho a little slower overall - slightly faster overall than the 5770 tho not by much.

Ok thanks guys, just called my friend to tell him i'll have it :D

He said on the phone its the xfx XXX edition so im guessing as higher clock speeds over stock.

Its in between 5750-5770 speeds depending on game. £50 is an OK price, but cards like the 4890, 5770 can beat it quite convincingly.

192SP version maybe...

According to anandtech:

216SP 260 v 5770:

ME2 49.2 v 39.2
Wolfenstein 71.1 v 69.4
L4D 113 v 105.6
Crysis: 22.7 v 23.2
HawX 64 v 60

throw a few more in:

Theres a few games like fear 2 and stalker that go to the 5770 but generally they are pretty close but the GTX260 is slightly out ahead over a range of games.

Like I said bang in between a 5750 and a 5770. Less than a 4890 and 5770, I have detailed files.

I have an Asus Top 260 which is an overclocked out the box 192SP version. I have now replaced it in my main rig with a 480 but the 260 was and still is a great card and can quite happily run the latest games.

£50.. you got a bargain there mate, very nice indeed.

£50 bargain,i just paid £90 for a palit sonic gtx260(216) faster than a 5770 and about even to a 4890.

Have you tried ocing it further? some of those will hit ~1600MHz shader clocks on stock cooling which puts them on par with the extreme OC'd 4890 models.
