Steam: Monkey Island 2 Lechuck's Revenge

is there still a option to play MI2 in Lite mode? or Normal mode?

the thing that ruined the first one for me, was that I was too tempted to use the hint button!

I'd have thought they'd be the Monkey Lite mode, can't confirm it though.

Just mind over matter avoiding the hint button. Stick with it even when you're stuck. :p

JC, take this comment constructively rather then offensely but why not buy MI2 and get the first game free? (BTW I would have given you my free game but I gave it to my girlfriend...)

This is a seriously sloppy conversion & slight letdown:

1: Does not support 16:10 so you have to have forced letterboxing unless you have a 16:9 monitor.

2: The control scheme is still too clunky.

3: Original game is missing content & the music used in it is not as good as the midi version.

4: Game is missing the entire opening credits & animation as well as the terrific music that went with it.

5: In game music is pretty poor & some of the voice acting is obviously very low budget as the voices chosen do not fit the characters well at all.

6: Ingame sound mixing is all wrong the previously active Imuse system which boosted music on the fly is missing from the original game & they did not bother implementing it into the enhanced version either.

I still own my original MI2 media for both Amiga & PC & the original game running via ScummVM is superior to the shoddy work Lucasarts have done here :( apart from the HD gfx everything else is a letdown & even the gfx are not all that as clearly they used an off the shelf based system to create the basic background animations so its not like they did anything special either on such a classic game!

What? It's that quick to complete?

How long gameplay is the first one? I might be able to play through both in an evening.

I'd imagine it's really quick to play through once you know what to do but sometimes the puzzles can have quite obscure solutions or you may know what you have to do, just not how to get the bits and pieces to do it.

Still trying to download this.... My ISP isn't to blame, its my connection... I'm lucky to even had ADSL where I am, left it running whilst at work hopefully when I get home it'll be completed..;) I'll give it a go then.. I'll let you all know what I think..

I know them off by heart, hence why it took so short a time. Gameplay is a hard thing to measure from this type of game. It takes as long as it takes you to beat, you could get stuck and spend hours trying to figure out one puzzle. They can take a while for people that aren't used to the sometimes warped thinking required for some of the puzzles. Stick with it and don't use a guide I say. :) If you don't you'll easily get 10+ hours trying to puzzle your way through, if not more.

If it helps, the second game has about 5 times the locations, and it's less linear.

This kind of game would sometimes last me months when it was new when I was a kid. :)

Complaints

I agree with some of your stuff, but not all of it.

1: The original viewport is 16:9, and the new hand drawn backgrounds are a perfect match for the original. Change from one to the other and you'll see. They'd either have to chop what they have, or invent new material to get 16:10, I'm glad they did neither.

2. Disagree, I found it easy to use, even straight from the beginning. Far easier than the first SE.

3. Which content (other than the opening) do you think is missing?

4. Agree. :(

5. All the main cast are the same as they've always been. Considering the 12 year gap for some people it's pretty good of Lucasarts to round them all up. While some of the bit part characters had completely different voices to what imagined from years of playing the text version, I wouldn't say they didn't fit, or where badly done.

6. iMuse is implemented to some extent, but they had a lot of trouble getting it right. From the sound of it, making a seamless transition with live instruments is harder than with midis. To keep the music matched when you change from new to original the same delay is in the original as well. A shame, but I can't say it ruined the game for me.
If you watch one of the making of videos on youtube, the problems they had implementing it, and the solutions they used are explained.

I like it. I'll always go back to my original copy when I want to play the original classic, but if I want to experience the new graphics and voice acting, as well as the commentary I'll go back to this.
It's not a replacement, it's a tribute.

This is something that Telltale have failed with consistantly- it's either stretched in 16:10 or you put up with the borders. I can understand it in a game that uses 2d art assets, but it's not really an excuse with their 3d stuff (Wallace and Grommit, Tales of MI).

Just had a quick go and impressed so far. Shame the intro is missing but control with mouse seem a lot better than in MI 1 remake. :)
