Disable people and housing.

Dole sponges are human beings, but the big difference is they are scum, their crime of laziness and refusal to work should not go unpunished.

Disabled parking spaces must be by the front doors of a building because it's difficult for cars to see wheelchairs crossing a carpark.

I have to say I dont mind disabled parking, I can park the other side of town and easily walk where I want to go...

Here's a contentious one for you then.

Disabled bays (now I know they are called different things depending on what PC nonsense is going on at the time but, for the purposes of this thread, I am referring to the bays with the wheelchair symbol on them) -

If all disabled bays are full (or even empty) anyone with a "blue badge" can park in a non-disabled bay i.e. "standard bay"

What if ALL the "standard bays" are full and there is a number of disabled bays left ??

Would you park in it... Is this right ??

Now, lets not start throwing in a multitude of factors such as "is there public access points like bus stops etc near" and all that tosh.... Simple questions without other outside factors.

Would you park in it ??
Should you be able to park in it ??

A blue badge is supposed to be issued to someone 'unable or virtually unable to walk'

Somehow I reckon if you can walk round a supermarket (be it with the aid of a trolley/walking stick) then you probably don't meet the definition above!

You can be "virtually unable to walk" due to other issues, such as the pain it causes, or heart/lung issues - I know people who to look at them are fine (if somewhat slow) when walking, but only because they are on pain killers or other medication that negates some of the effects for a while (or they are using a trolley for support).

Also a lot of people in wheelchairs may not be able to self propel, and their carer might have problems pushing any distance.

I wonder what percentage of registered disabled people can actually work and choose not to because they are better off? What stage of disabily can make you unable to work, i believe that unless you are in constant uncontrolable pain, have motor skill issues or have mental issue's then surely you can work.

Oh yeah, certain disabilitys don't qualify you to give up the right to work. If you're paralysed from the waist down but otherwise fine then you can stiill work.

It's not just about ability to work, it's about access to buildings (being in a wheelchair I can tell you that loads of properties aren't accessible) suitability of job (often low skilled jobs involve manual work that isn't suitable) and lastly attitude of employer.
Yes you're not legally allowed to discriminate, but it would be easy for an employer to make a valid reason why a disabled person wasn't hired.

At the moment many people are looking for cheap affordable housing and one way i think more houses could be free'd up is moving the disabled people from there large multistory house's into cheaper to build bungalows.

The reason why i say this is i have a neighbor who is in a wheelchair and lately bed bound but is on her own in a large 3 bedroom council house, She has had the government pay for loads of added item's in her house including a lift, Surely it would be better to move her into a bungalow and let family's have the council house.

On another gripe they should look into the use of these new cars every three years, my neighbor cannot drive and actually gives it to her friends to drive around in, It is rarely even outside her house, maybe once a week the person who is driving it might visit her.

Am i being unfair? If i were on my own and disabled i would be happy to be moved from a large house to a smaller single level bungalow.

What are you thoughts?

Has she been disabled all her life or ended up disabled due to illness/accident and was she living there prior to you moving in?

Personally I feel you don't have the right to question what is happening in her life and should just mind your own business.

The level of ignorance, prejudice and self importance in this thread is astounding.

+1

I thought OCuk was a better standard of forum...

...as someone who is registered disabled I'm astounded by the sheer wall of thickness that greets me in this thread. Nevermind separate housing for disabled people, how about a ghetto for ignorant ****s who want disabled bays at the back of carparks. Christ.

Idiocy. You actually believe all disabled people are living it up in big, multi-bedroomed houses?

Of course they are, drinking champaign from crystal goblets, and off to Florida twice a year, whilst they get a free BMW every year which they can sell on...

I totally agree with disabled spaces being where they are and in some places they should be closer, I will never park in one.

I just believe that a lot of disabled people are able to work in one way or another (making some no different than these so called dole bludgers), I'm not talking about being a brick layer or roofer but a lot of jobs these days are administrative, I know someone who is paralyzed from the waist down (as is my neighbor) and works

GACKT, I obviously do not think all disabled people are living it up in multi roomed houses that is just nieve, If anything it re-iterates my point, Why should 1 disabled person live in a large 3 bedroom council house when other disabled people have to live in small council houses/flats? surely these house's should be shared around more evenly, in my opinion moving single disabled people into smaller houses thus freeing up larger houses for family's.

Gas chambers and Death camps problems solved.

What gets me about this damn place sometimes is the level of biggotry and intolerance with blatant posts that never attract a warning or even any yellow text (even when reported I might add). Mention a competitor and you get a week's holiday...

tell you what, we will shoot all the disabled people, they are lame and pulling society down there is no place for the weak and infirm in our idyllic metropolis we are trying to create, while we are at it lets shoot all under 16's from any area with poverty or low income eliminating all the chavs, none of them will grow up to be any good or contribute tax's.
tax credits, lets bin them, all of them. if you don't earn enough to feed your family that's just tough, shouldn't have so many kids or should have worked harder at school and got a better job, that would save lots of pennys for the government, there just hand outs after all.

sarcasm is a blessing, all seem very unreasonable to me yet all accomplish the same ends!

disabled people didn't ask to be disabled, they did ask however to live in a society where they can have a standard of living and not be singled out for there disability's, they might have a nice car on the drive they don't own but im sure a lot of them arnt happy... face struggles every day we able bodied people couldn't imagine. the op said the lady alienated a lot of residence where she lived, no doubt she is a little bitter through her circumstances/affliction we have become cynical over the past few years and now assume every one who draws a benefit is scum or scroungers who do it because its easy, some people genuinely need these to live through no choice of there own, i for one think its a blessing our country provides for some of these people, i also try not to tarnish people with the same brush.
