MX-5 Geo and Lowering

That's rather hard...the e36 has 40+ PSI in the tyres but is a heavy lump, the MX-5 is lighter.

My sport has 32 in the front 38 in the rear. Im currently driving a mk1 mx5 on 4 tyres consisting of 1 pirelli, 1 marshal 1 kerlah?!? and one wan li, and its. interesting:D

I live in the same town as Centre mavity. I dont think theres much chance of me taking the insight down although Im sure he could work wonders on that!

Try telling that to all those left-handers who bought the new iPhone with its reception issues! :D

Im right handed, so i hold the phone with my left hand... :p And yes you guessed it, if I write a text like that I cant send it for a while until signal comes back :P

lol what? What's the story? Including suspension I guess that is not to bad...

Im not sure if he did have to pay for parts, i was just saying that might have been how a 1k bill was knocked up.

Its about 350 quid for the basic job if you dont want upgrade or need replacement parts.

Personally I’d prefer to take the car to someone with a proven track record and knowledge of the 5's geo setup, otherwise you could be in for quite a few visits till he dials in the settings which feel right on the road.

I've got / used to have a list of custom geo setup's spanning the Mk1 to Mk3 Mx-5, will look on my server at home and see if I’ve still got the file knocking about.

The way Chris works he doesn't need a huge database of proven settings (he did an acquaintances Saab 9000 a while back with no prior knowledge of the marque). He measures the cars existing geo and corner weights it, from which he has an idea of how it handles, then takes it for a test drive to see exactly how things are. Measures the tyre temperatures then makes the first adjustments followed by more road testing. 4hrs will get a car to high standard and he also does a full 8hr total custom session when perfection is required.

This is the key really, anyone can stick a car on a machine and put some settings on it and there is little question that this will improve things no end but taking into account the specifics of the car and actually testing each little tweak is the difference. WIM have an excellent reputation in MX5 circles, they do a good job and can put various flavours of settings on the car, like JZM and Fearnsport did with my Porsche but Chris Franklin from what I can only take from others, approaches each car as a bespoke project. Now you could argue the merits or worth of this time spent for what is my wife's car, but I like the idea of someone who is acknowledged as pretty special in his field working his magic and this is something I feel is worth paying more for.

Will I be able to tell the subtle difference between a WIM and CG car? Perhaps, but that assumes I can drive em side by side which I wont really so I am taking a flyer and maybe paying for something over and above any real value but I am willing to do that this time around. I am 100% confident it will come to me as good as it's going to get and that is all I seek really.

Both CG and WIM get much praise.

I can only speak from experience for WIM where my car was for 2 days. Polybushing and geometry, some MY revisions causing some fitment issues meant I practically lived out of their garage for the time. Suffice to say it came out a completely different car.

Be keen to hear how it went and your views after it has been worked on.

I love the transformed handling of my MX5, I hope you will be as suitably impressed with your results.
