Marked some one elses door with my door :/ questions inside

No you should have some respect for the system and appreciate that a 'mark' as you put it does not necessitate staining someones insuarnce reccord and causing the outlay of hundreds of pounds to add nothing of value, if anything you are causing yourself problems to as you need to leiase with multiple parties and await the minor repair (if its even deemed necessary).

As already stated, you don't have a choice, if the third party wants to involve his insurance company then that's it, it's an offense to not pass these details on if they're requested.

There are a couple of people in this thread who should be shot!
Last weekend somebody backed into my car in a carpark.
(He pulled into a space on the right and stopped, I moved forward and he then reversed back into a space on the left hitting the front of my car).

On initial inspection the damage was quite minor, looked like one dented panel.
We swapped details and I said I'd get a dealership quote and get back to him.

I'm the aggreived party here and unless it is very minor damage indeed it is going to an approved repair centre, simple as.
Turns out that on inspection he's burst a seal and caused knock on damage to around 3 panels and taken off paint.
Total cost around £525.

Guy is 70 and tells me that they really hit you hard for an "at fault" claim at his age, so he's paying for the damage himself.

You damage it you pay for it.
If you don't - then insurance covers it.
There is no "But it won't add value to the car be repairing".
There is no "Come on mate - you've got lots of knocks".

If I'm not at fault ANY damage should be repaired for at the cost of the person causing it.

firefilesuk - Please leave motors and never return you ignorant ignorant person.

I must admit I don't post that much in motors, but I do tend to read it most days and I have to admit that the idiocy coming from firefilesuk mouth is ridiculous, regardless of the previous state of someone’s car you have to take responsibility. I am glad the OP does not think along the same lines as firefilesuk, good luck with the fix, I don’t expect it will cost too much to fix however definitely worth keeping it off the insurance.

TBF that damage is easily repairable (and shoudl be cheap) to original quality (although the quality of the surrounding paint isn't great to begin with :p).

See what the guy phones up with and you'll know if he's trying to pull something.

If folks use a bit of sense these things would never happen

I always try and avoid parking anywhere near anyone else but if I do I put my hand over the edge of my door as I open it

Wasnt actually me who did it but my 8year old sister after telling her to wait for me to come around and open the door she decided to do it her self and it was abit windy so she couldnt keep hold of it

My uncle parked beside me once on a convoy journey to London and his daughter opened the door smack into mine (his car is a 730d). I turned round with a ":O" virtual expression in my mind and went to see the damage.

There was none at all.

It's like some kind of BMW shield or something :D

But yeah it's impossible to be careful at all times though.

Tell him to do one, its a saxo ffs, i'd give someone a funny look maybe voice some concern but would not kick up a major fuss and expect insurance details for something of little value.

what type of car it is is irelevant... you damage it you pay up wether its a crap heap or not you fix it to atleast as good as it was before its the decent thing to do

ah well didnt have chance to ring him after his text lastnight and didnt ring him before i finished work and got below text ah well

"because you dint contact me ive phone my insurance an now there gunna deal wiv it"

That is mental.

Phone him up, say your sorry for not getting in contact you've been very busy and remind him that on next years insurance he will have to declare that he has been in a crash which required insurance to fix it.

Yes I know it's not a proper 'crash' but his insurance will go up because he's been involved in a claim and statistics say he's more likely to be involved in another.

He could seriously be adding an extra few hundred quid to his next years insurance - the same for you.

allready paying 2.5k for mine so think after a year might give up driving till turn 25 and hopefully it will drop

he's pulling a fast one.

Deny all knowledge, lie, cheat, fake witnesses, etc.. to make the claim go 50/50

Everybody else gets away with it, why shouldnt you when some **** tries it on.

If the claim goes 50/50 he has to claim off his insurance and it doesnt effect you. You obviously not having any damage dont claim and thus dont effect your ncb.

After what has just happened I'm actually completely in agreement with Mrlolface!

I'ts a tiny mark and could be cleaned off with some damn t-cut.

These people should be set on fire by the side of the road, in their vehicle.

Agree with most of the views...
Phone the guy, offer to fix it (you pay) without insurance involved.
The guy will get an estimate & phone u back, expect a couple of hundred quid BTW here...
Or it's go through the insurance & its sounding like an open & shut case of your liable... if your fully comp yur ins pays it, if your 3rd party fire & theft = its you who stumps up the cash...
a no win whichever way you choose...
But if you at least try avoiding the insurance companies = your next years insurance wont increase greatly due to the accident...

Oh & tell the 8yr old kid to be more patient or hold on to car doors better when its windy = none of this woulda happened hehe... ;)

Hope his saxo's a banger & you only need fork out £100 eh ;)

Good lucks ;)

1. Why did he phone HIS insurers and not yours?

2. Remind him he is probably going to end up paying higher premiums in future if he goes ahead with the claim. He sounds a bit thick.
