can ocuk tip me off if they are announcing a new gtx470 or is it just small fry, the gtx460 they announce?!

GTX 470's aren't about to be replaced. They've only just been released in the grand scheme of things. :)

NDA's apply so officially nothing new exists... ;)
 
460gtx, With probably more texture processing units than the 470gtx, less shaders, but a lot cheaper, and supposed to overclock to similar levels of performance, if the 470/480gtx are heavily texture limited, then it might end up closer to a 470gtx than you'd think.

Of course, sudden drops on prices on products expected to not sell well after a new launch...... not new.

5850 is still the better buy though, not looked around at prices but you've been able to get them more a LOT cheaper than this, £35-45 more for a card that performs similarly but is noisier, hotter, and you otherwise wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

To be honest, at this price, yes. It's not a lot more than the cheapest 5850 (the original reference designs, which are getting more difficult to find), and definitely not much more than the average 5850. It overclocks well, and the performance scales well with the clock speed. Other things like 3D Vision and the P-word only sweeten the deal (though are not deal makers or breakers).

Hard to say. The HD5850 is arguably quieter, cooler running, whereas the GTX470 has things like PhysX and CUDA.

If you want these, then get the 470. Otherwise I'd say get the ATI card. It's very close in performance.
 
Yeah 5850 probably just about edges it - tho if this was £15-20 cheaper I'd say it would be a hard call.

I'd still buy the GTX470 tho personally just a matter of taste.
