Hi Everyone,

I've currently got a iPhone 3g (non-s). I finished my 18 month contract with o2 and at that time the iPhone 4 wasn't out therefore I was simply put on a 1 month rolling contract until I'm ready to move on.

I was all set with getting a iPhone 4, I waited a bit and noticed all the issues with it (signal issue, proximity sensor issue, etc) coupled with the price of the handset I'm considering moving away from apple to some other smart phone.

I've looked at the following:

HTC Desire
Samsung Galaxy S

Both seem like good phones, but I've read that the screen quality is still a bit better on the iPhone 4, which is a bit disconcerting.

I've never owned an android phone before, and with that in mind can you guys please offer your personal opinions on whether or not these phones are good contenders to move away from Apple with, or if I should just wait until Apple fix all the issues with the current phone.

One major bonus with the iPhone 4 is I can get it with Tesco mobile on a 12 month contract.

I really would like a HTC Evo...but it looks like it won't make a European release.

Cheers,

David

Well, the screens are different. I would say the iPhone screen is slightly more crisp than those two phones, but not something you should be bothered about (or would barely notice in general use).

Certain things are also displayed better on the LED screens too.

They are excellent phones to move away from the iPhone with. I think you would find them quite refreshing.

The EVO 4G will not see Europe, the Desire also has a better (although slightly smaller) screen than it too, so thats a bonus :p

The Galaxy S has a bigger and slightly better screen than the Desire, and is modelled a bit more like the EVO, so I'd have a look there unless you want the HTC Sense UI.

Thanks for the reply chaps.

I actually went into my local apple store and had a look at the new iPhone and to be honest was a little disappointed with the new screen; it was better, but not by a massive, earth shattering margin that all the reviewers seem to think even side by side with my 3G (and I also have better than perfect vision :P).

Are there any new Android based phones coming out soon? If there are I'll be tempted to wait, but if not I will probably side with the Galaxy S, but some reviews are a but iffy for it, mentioning poor battery life.

I've just bought the Samsung purely because the desire was out of stock everywhere i went to. Very impressed with it so far very quick. Im running a different launcher now which makes it even better.

Would recommend it 100%:o
