Hi guys, i haven't been on here for a while! But i need your help with a quick spec of a machine i need to build, the requirements are:

  • Fast
  • Decent graphics card for a few light games, eg sims 3
  • Cheap, possibly as close to £500 (excl. VAT) as possible
I have thrown together a quick spec:

I know you guys won't disappoint! Thank-you
Jay

if you dont mind an AMD alternative (im not upto date with the latest and greatest coolers, so someone else please step in and finish it off):

my thoughts:
-£65 cheaper
-graphics card is faster/cooler/less power used/ DX11 etc.
-RAM is less prone to failing (OCZ golds have a terrible track record round here)
-depending on the firmware, some samsung f3's dont work with AMD 800 series chipsets, hence the barracuda
-The phenom is a tad slower than the i5, but its about £10 quid slower, not £65 slower if you catch my drift ;)

edit: forgot the dvd drive - extra £14 :S

Thankyou for your reply, i shall do some more research into AMD systems :) Although i am only really familiar with Intel systems at the moment, but thankyou nevertheless for your reply :)

What are you going to be using the system for besides a few light games? If it's nothing heavier than the Sims then you could probably get away without having to spend so much.

Okay one spec idea:

The 1TB HDD is on special offer atm so it's not much more than the 500GB!

Obviously ignore the blu-ray suggestion if you don't want that, but I've got that drive and it's great and comes with loads of software.

If you're not doing anything more intensive than some light gaming then you could probably save a lot of money by changing the CPU to something like this.

Mostly browsing, music, videos, and converting videos once in a while :)

Okay well converting videos is quite CPU intensive but it depends how often you do it as to if it's really worth the faster processor or not. :)

Yeah i was planning to overclock the i5 chip, in terms of graphics cards, could i downgrade then? To save a little extra

Well I doubt the Sims has particularly high graphics requirements. :) and it's not the kind of game where it's particularly important to keep a constant 60FPS. :D
