tell me what car i want to buy.

As you don't care about image, how about a 3.2 Audi TT. Fills all the criteria listed. The rear seats may be a problem, though. You'd have to check those out for yourself.

Except for the fact he has £5k to spend and wont get a 3.2 Audi TT for that. I'd say 'not actually being able to afford' is the one peice of criteria that its essential any car you recommend meets.

I think he should do what everyone else thinks you should, go and buy the fastest possible car for £4995 because running costs go away and all that matters is purchase price.

I recommended the wrong blady' car! I meant a 1.8T [225] (I thought the 225 was a 3.2) - Something like this:

it's worth noting that 5-6k is the amount of cash i want to lay down for a car, and is only a limited reflection on how much it costs to run. i'm comfortably off at the moment, and even after all my bills and silly drinking and foolishness, i have about 500 quid a month kicking around.

as for the audi, it's an audi. with audi steering.

Evo 4 or 5

// edit #1 - Just saw you wanted a nice interior... ummm Audi S3 or S4? RX8?

//edit #2 - Did I really just suggest an RX8 has a nice interior?

Pretty obvious really, it has the styling inside and out that you'd expect from a car from the mid 90's.,

But why would that would automatically exclude the Supra/Soarer? They are vastly different to a 200SX in both exterior and interior...

They are not really any less 90's, are they? It's not a failing of the car, it was after all released in the early 90's - but.. its still a factor. It obviously bothers him - it'd bother me as well.

thanks everyone - no one so far has come up with a positive suggestion that i havent considered already myself.

the four i really thought might be on the money

E36 M3.... which i'm prepared to let off 90s-ness because i love them. but they're well pricey to insure, as in at least £500 more than any of the others
330i. would be at the upper end of my budget, but that's what budgets are for. it'd be a saloon too, but i'm cool with that. 325 is actually more to insure.
ST220.
530i, but i'd need to drive one to check it isnt too boaty.

yes, three BMWs. they hold the quality i want, but the driver is invited too.

The 530i is not boaty. The only problem with it is that they are all ancient now. It's a good job I love mine to death becuase it's a financial nightmare at the moment. Just stiffed me for £320 today :p

Could justnabout squeeze a Mazda 6 mps?

Again, I don't understand what "90s" is? In terms of build quality and design they are vastly different.

they are knocking on rather. chances of finding one treated like yours get slimmer every day, so it's an idle thought in case a nice one pops up
