UK'S LOWEST PRICED GEFORCE GTX 470 GRAPHICS CARD - ONLY £259.99 INC. VAT

If the GTX470 could match a 5850 on price (£220) or TDP it would be a closer call.

For me its all about the overclocked performance and its hard to compare the two with the extra *needs* of the GTX470.

Its a hard one to pin down right now performance wise - both the 5850 and 470 have seen performance boosts with the latest drivers 10.5+/257.xx and most of the reviews are lagging behind. When I did a round up of results the other day for a graph 10.3 v 197.xx drivers the 5850 came out ontop by a reasonable margin overall - but looking at the 257.15 v 10.3 results the GTX470 has pulled back the lead in many cases, can't find any decent 10.5/10.6 based results to compare tho.

Are they similar performance wise then? . . . or is it a £35 premium for the nVidia branding? :)

I think they learned their lesson now, we need nVidia back in the game otherwise the Radeons are gonna keep floating upwards in price! :D

Its worth it if you get a good clocker tho :D problem is from what I see the overclocking quality is quite varied.

Well if i got the money i might just get a 5870 anyways but the only thing taking me back to 5850 is price and how close it is to the 5870 in games.

I know the 5850 can oc to about 5870 speeds but when you oc a 5870 does it get a lot better fps like the 5850 oc would do.

Cheers

That's a very good price, I would still be tempted to get the HD5850 but at least at that price its now firmly away from the HD5870. Now I wonder if ATI will respond in kind?

I think this is OcUK price matching another shop that has had GTX470's at this price for a while. Hopefully the other etailers will follow and price's will come into line with each other.

well 470's win it for me my overclock eqates to over a 30% overclock on the core shame these where not this price when i borught mine the other week and the 5 year warrenty thats going to come in handy

think of what u will get for an rma in 4 years time lol

Tempting, especially as I can still get a fair bit for my GTX 260 on the bay. Think I'll probably wait a month or two till after the summer as I'm not using the pc at all atm.

£35 gamble on how well it OCs IMO

I have gone from 607Mhz to 748Mhz with temps at 59C, and it is rock solid, if I tweak the voltage I can get 790 stable but have to have the fan at 80% as it begins to creep upto 85C under load which is too high for me. Plays all my games fine, but I only game at 1680 x 1050, so Im hardly stretching the card

Im not a fanboi, but I am really impressed with this card, but my primary purpose is distributed computing, not gaming, but I will be getting another of these next month..

At the moment unless you have air con everyone’s video card will be under pressure temperature wise. I was playing Counter Strike Source last night and my HD5770 was 71c under load and with the fan on auto (was quiet noisy actually) so I wouldn't be in rush to start overclocking video cards especially ones that are already hot.

Hmm planing on buying 2 of these at the end of next month and putting them under water but would this void the warrenty?

Well this brings it into a whole new light 2 of thease are better bang for buck then two 5850 ? due to the Effi of the scaling of SLI ? tempted think i wait for 6870s.
