Messenger Beta


Is anyone here using it? What's this social updates like? Can you chat to people on Facebook with it now?


I'm not going to bother downloading if it's no good. :D
 
This has to be the biggest fail they have ever released. No longer can you just change your name. It starts up with a big bloated box. Huge ads at bottom of message windows. The facebook and serices you can connect to it is just a fad. On the plus the side thew updated smileys are nice and appearing offline to certain people is handy but my god this crap with user names etc better not be included in final.

I don't use Facebook so the social things are useless for me. It looks nice, but I can't really see any other benifit.
 
The new Live Messenger is HORRIBLE!

They've gradually ruined it over the years, but if this becomes their final version, I definately won't be using it anymore.
 
What end it for me is the force of full names and all the update rubbish. A few features are *nice* but not worth the downsides for. Tabbed messaging is good but very basically implemented. The facebook on the main tab works well. Photos opening in the windows live photo way and ability to add comments direct to them without loading facebook is good.

Will give it till Saturday. The ads are really annoying as heck though, soon as your mouse hovers it opens and then the same rubbish now on the chat window is shocking.

mine doesnt start up with a big box. if i change it to compact view it stays and starts up in compact view.

never really understood the need to change my user name though.


apart from the silly advert which im sure will be dealt with with a-patch or whatever, it doesn't look hugely different in compact view.

I have to disagree, I've been using it for 5 years or so and I can't honestly recall a time it's crashed on me or did something strange.

There isn't much to go wrong really, feature wise it's pretty much on par with ye olde Windows Messenger - and that's what I like about it.
