What is it with people and dubs

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why people hate dubbed anime/games so much. They say it sounds better in japanese. I dunno about the rest of you but I find female japanese voices a little too "girly" and the males sound like they have to rush through every piece of text. Everywhere I go I see the same thing posted, 'dubs suck' and so on. Could it be the ones saying it are all from Japan? You watch anime to watch, you don't watch anime to read at least I don't. If I wanted to read I'd read the manga. How can anyone enjoy watching anime when there eyes have to be at the bottom of the screen reading, just too much hassle and I oh did I mention I can't stand the japanese voices.

i find it has more to do with familiarity of voices, i used to watch a few anime shows which were subbed and watching the dubbed versions after having listened to them as subbed for so long felt awful as the dubs sounded nothing like the voices i'd become accustomed to.

and regarding the having to read whilst watching i didn't find that a problem at all, i didn't even realise i was reading the writing most of the time (i knew i must have been because i don't understand japanese AT ALL but it really didn't register)

I much prefer subtitles to dubbed, I just don't like it when voices don't match the picture, I'm sure this isn't as bad on animation but for live action subtitles win every time.

Yeah you're probably right, I probably can't seem to understand the "others", because I don't ever watch anything not in english. There have been a few occasions when I've watched a movie that's been in belgian or another language, but never something which I watch weekly and hear the same voices over and over.

Do you think this could be, because you started of with subs. Perhaps if you started of with dubs you might have felt differently.

subs are better....voices sound better too....dubbed voices just sound awful....they just dub the anime with really bad voices.

Do all of you watch certain Anime subbed first then go to dubbed or the other way around.

I prefer the original audio myself, it seems to have more emotion and throw behind the voices than when "westeners" go over it.

Flawed argument, it's not just Anime, what about foreign films?
I can't begin to remember how many I've seen.

I watched Dragonball Z with American voice actors first. Then went on to subbed and just stuck with it.

Films are okay as there a one off but watching a series, I dunno really.

Funny I always was top of my class in reading and was always told to slow down.

I really don't know what else to say, I just don't like to watch anime especially when its in a different language, but movies are okay. Guess its the same way on the other side. Just the thing is you don't see anyone saying I hate subs, well you have now, me lol.

IBT = was a popular shortening of the words 'in before the' once upon a time in the internet land. I'm old and stuck in my ways and still think it's current, hip and, possibly, groovy, so I still use it to show how rad I am. Yeah.
