Bioware July 8

Bah, reading all the way through the posts here and getting my hopes up that it was ToR coming. Yes I know I am one of those crazy no-life WoWers, but when it comes I am out of there (never happened! ;))

Hurrah for the 10 year epic storyline which we know will be made of Bioware win.

Not so hurrah for the choice on character. I like my epic RPGs with some RPG elements please not some crummy quasi-RPG rubbish like Mass Effect 2 (not that the game is rubbish, just the RPG trappings on what is essentially a TPS).

It's Bioware though so I doubt they're going to make a bad game but it just seems like a strange choice after having gone through the origin of a character to simply abandon them for the sequel.

I think it is due to the whole party based D&D did not work on consoles. Therefore they are having to come up with something that does for a sequel. ME works on consoles so it fits.

Tis the way of development nowadays; has to be on all platforms or not at all.

Sucks really but no doubt Bioware will something awesome that we will all want.

Great, DA:O was only os great, in my books, because of the companions...this new character looks like a ****.

'Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat mechanics...'

^ ^ ^
Does that sentence annoy anyone else?

Irrelevant!

How is it irrelevant? FF XIV is smaller compared to TOR, what makes you think a beta will be out this early? STO was out just before it's release, same with CO and now FF XIV, Bioware will release it close to it's release day as other MMO's have done, not to mention other games have done.

You, as well as any other people interested in TOR might be completely in love with TOR, but obssessed fans optimism for this game, especially an early beta for this year is rather funny.

Now, you're just being silly and assuming stuff... ;)

I really don't think you understood what I meant by 'it's never too early for a beta'... :p

Dragon Effect 2 then? Seems to be some sort of dumbing down for consoles going on here, I thought they would steer the game to be more like Baldur's gate.. Not mass effect with swords...

People were complaining on the DA forums about the silent main character..

"like omg the main character in ME has a voice.. why not DA??? LOL!".

It was explained that DA had not only a choice of sex, but race and background and if they were to voice the main character, the varying combinations that you could choose from would mean a massive jump in budget and development time.

"Wut?? but ME has a voice.. easy!!"

I'm not very happy about this decision, but hey, it's par for the course these days. I'm sure the "rpg" parts of the game will be further reduced to "rpg elements". Boo hiss!

I don't think EA/BW care less what people on the forums were whinning about (although they're not shy of using things like that as an excuse though). It obviously looks like they are doing a ME2 here, which from a marketing angle is actually a bit strange. By their own admission DA:O was the best selling BW game they've done, more sales than ME2 even so why screw that up?. Only thing I can think of is consolitis/cost cutting/laziness on their part.

And what's the big deal about SW:ToR?....it looks like a cookie cutter WoW clone to me, WoW with light sabers, holy trinity, etc...have no interest in something that has been done to death. Only upcoming MMO that looks remotely different/innovative is Guild Wars 2.

Well I for one am really happy about DA2. I am keeping an open mind about the whole character approach, although I do love the combat system in DA:O.

meant to be the first "sceenshot"

Doesn't look any different than DA1, I don't see a real graphical improvement, but I never had a problem with the graphics. Unless thats a console screenshot. I want to see the PC version in action, I need to know if they messed it up.

I don't suppose there's any real hope of holding out on a PC version? I very much liked how the original was tailored to PC gamers, and console players had an adapted port with gamepad controls and orcs with tin foil swords and marshmallows instead of fangs. I saw a mate playing it on PS3, and despite looking awful, it was also a very different game - when he said how much he was enjoying it I assumed he'd got it on PC, then I saw him playing on a pad and felt very sorry for him.

I doubt I'll get that feeling again. DA was amazing, but I never allowed myself to hope that it'd buck the trend for long.
