I was working for an engineering company and our team was entirely dependent on one government client, when the recession hit they had no jobs for us. So the company reduced itself by 12% and I was among a few others in our team that were asked to leave.
So I've been applying for jobs but it's been tough getting even so much as a reply from most of the applications, so just for one application I decided to pretend that I was still currently working for my previous company.
Wouldn't you know it, they called me in for an interview.
So now I'm stuck. I have to fill out a form that asks this information again and in one sense I know honesty is the best policy but I'm still stuck. To me if I tell them I was released then it's a major negative, compared to someone who is employed which in comparison is a massive difference.
If I do continue this lie, can they ever tell? I'd ask them not to contact my employer because they don't know I'm looking for another position.
I've been getting unemployment benefit so really that's the only clue, will a company look into that for new hires?? For a new hire new will a company find out that I've been getting unemployment benefits from some kind of tax inquiry?
