Hello all,

I was recommended here by a friend who said you're renowned for being incredibly helpful when looking to buy a new computer. I haven't built a computer in about six years and have fallen a little behind on what's the latest greatest pieces of kit to have in a relatively modestly budgeted machine. I'd love to be able to play recent games and whatnot at relatively high standards, I'm not thinking oily slick Crysis standard, just being able to get through L4D2 and Mass Effect 2 without any major hiccups. I reckon that a grand should be enough to cover that but I'm also rather a keen musician and would love to be able to have a recording set up on my rig as well. I've got various digital input devices and all the necessary software, but I thought I'd best include that in case I needed a sound card or anything? I know that motherboards these days seem to have perfectly good on board sound, but just in case it would make any difference to the overall quality of the machine or sound input.

But yes, I was looking at the various bundle deals and was told that it would be a lot cheaper to build it myself, I've got some friends I can call on to help me with this so I thought, why not? Unfortunately I then realised that I didn't really know where to start so came here seeking some advice :)

If at all possible it'd be nice if the £1000 (got about £200 extra if entirely necessary :P) could include a monitor/keyboard/windows 7 and all that kind of jazz but if that's not possible then that's fine. Is £1000 going to be enough to build me a decent gaming PC including all of this or am I going to have to dip into savings?

Thanks very much guys, any help you can give would be thoroughly appreciated. :D

£1097 + delivery. :) Will blast through any game, the PSU is kind of overkill but it's a great power supply and in a few years time if you decide to go crossfire to keep up with the latest games the motherboard + PSU will allow you to do so.

Is the G11 gaming keyboard a good investment? I am using a crappy dell keyboard I probably stole from my parents house. I have a G5 mouse which I consider very worth it.

Same goes for a sound card, necessary? I use a headset primarily. MKII's.

I am big on games.

@ iNPUT

No real preference as such, the keyboard's cool, a few keys to assign macros to'd be lovely if I decide to get back into WoW, the screen I'm not too fussed about, just large enough to watch films on and good enough to run games on really :)

@ Redmint

Fantastic cheers mate :D

Heres my go, over budget as well, but this is an i7 set up. Looking quiet simular to red mints because of this week only deals.

Just read for films, probably better getting a 1920x1080 monitor instead of the one I selected which is 1680x1050

Included a good cooler incase you want to dabble at some overclocking, if not then get the retail chip and use the stock heatsink.

G11 is a great keyboard for the money. :) Got mine 2nd hand a while ago with a PC and I'm quite happy with it.

Sound card is a nice investment especially if you have a decent pair of headphones or speakers.
