Steam: Monkey Island 2 Lechuck's Revenge

I can confirm the control scheme is different to 1. Even the 360 pad has a different method, you can actually walk the character with the left analogue stick

Apart from the intro, its pretty impressive

I agree with some of your stuff, but not all of it.

1: The original viewport is 16:9, and the new hand drawn backgrounds are a perfect match for the original. Change from one to the other and you'll see. They'd either have to chop what they have, or invent new material to get 16:10, I'm glad they did neither. Original viewport is actually 4:3 320x240 or 320x200.

5. All the main cast are the same as they've always been. Considering the 12 year gap for some people it's pretty good of Lucasarts to round them all up. While some of the bit part characters had completely different voices to what imagined from years of playing the text version, I wouldn't say they didn't fit, or where badly done. MI2 never had a talky version before your talking about some of the MI3,4,MI1 HD cast they have used here are'nt you?
Also, have not finished it yet but have already heard from others the ending is chopped out as well with all the different things to do. Same as the missing intro its not the gfx its the amazing musical cues that were playing with it which is the worse thing missing & totally inexcusable as even ripping them straight out of MI2 via ScummVM you can hear how awesome it still is and would have taken very little effort to implement just lazy/cheap porting again :(

thanks :) email sent.

Sent the gift this morning, forgot to post on here :)

Been looking forward to this game for ages but just can't find the time to play MI2.
Only about 45 minutes in but so far i'm really enjoying it. Haven't had any trouble with the controls yet, they seem fine and easy to use for me.

Buh? The original viewport and the SE game overlay each other near perfectly. Take the image file and you'll see it's a 16:9 ratio without the border.

Yes, I'm talking about the CoMI voice cast. I think Lucasarts did a great job of getting all of the voice actors of characters that featured to sign on for both special editions, including some of the actors that didn't feature in EfMI or the Telltale series. Phil LaMarr made a great Capt. Dread, and to be honest I'm not sure how you can say any of the voice acting was low budget.

Seriously? Dominic Armato is the only choice for Guybrush. That's like saying someone else would make a better Indy Jones than Harrison Ford to me. :p

He's too goofy sounding. It makes the character too comical. I always preferred to think of him as a guy who appeared normal but was just incredibly clumsy, always said the wrong thing and made all the wrong choices. Quite naive and a bit of a simpleton. Armato just removes all form of subtlety and paints him as a complete clown.

*shrug* I played the game when it came out originally, and have my own voices in my head for all these characters :)

Playing the MI 1 remake and thought Guybrush's voice was a bad fit but playing MI 2 and it's definitely growing on me...

Been playing through MI 1 as I need to finish that first and it's a right giggle at times. I love the sword fighting. :D

Just stole my credit note (I love winding up the old guy in the store) to buy a boat.

Dude your just not getting it the original game was made before Widescreen PC displays even existed ;) Its originally a 4:3 image but its stretched here to fit a 16:9 display now. Trust me I still own my original Amiga + PC versions (on floppy discs!) and its always been 320x240 on PC (256 or 16 colour) & 320x200 on Amiga (32 colour's only). Play MI2 in ScummVM with the original aspect ratio then you will see the difference ;)

Yes, the artwork was still widescreen since the icons/verbs were below it?

Here's a pic from dosbox:

I have my original copy complete with box, Mix n Mojo and manual, makes no difference to this however. Big Whoop as it were. ;)

I think you're the one missing the important point.

The original game window was 4:3 ratio. I have no dispute with that.

The original game also had a inventory and verb selection section, taking up a portion of the game window, the SE doesn't. Seems like a hard thing for you not to notice?

Without the verb window the viewport of the scene is about 16:8, and has been stretched a tiny amount to allow the SE to display on regular 16:9 monitors. I haven't got a clue what you're trying to argue to be honest.

Even without the stretch, they match up pretty well.

Why did Lucasarts choose to support 16:9 rather than 16:10? Most likely because they'd rather support the majority of their market rather than the minority. The SE is out on plenty of platforms that use 16:9 (PS3, Xbox etc), and only one that uses 16:10. Supporting both would either mean stretching the image produced for 16:9 making it ugly, inventing new material that wasn't present in the original game, or cropping the edges of the screen.

I wouldn't say any of these options are suitable for a remake of a game. A tiny bit of letter boxing was the best option for lucasarts.

Thank you! :p

anyone had any problems with the voices popping in this game over an hdmi sound output in a tv? every other game via hdmi is fine but this 1 results in popping voices. my external speakers hooked up to my primary monitor howevver are fine

The only thing that really bothers me is Guybrush's silly face. There's someone really annoying about it. Aside from that it's as spot-on as I would have liked. Not sure why people are complaining about the Guybrush's voice acting: the same chap has voiced him in every game since number 3.
