opinions on SUBARU FORESTER

Someone call ? :)

I used to have a UK Forester XT which was heavily modded and ended up sharing many parts with the JAP import STi version.

Great car, essentially it's an impreza on stilts but with all the added practicality of an SUV. Very moddable as most impreza bits will go on but tbh given my time again I'd get an FSti out of the box.

Downsides as mentioned are thirsty, interior not great and handling poor as standard but easily fixed with bigger wheels, lower profile tyres and some springs and ARB's.

Will post some pics with little encouragement needed if anyone is interested ;)

I prefere the Legacy outback over the Forrester. It is better looking and more car like but retains the 4x4, higher ground clearence and low ratio gear box.

Nearly bought Forester XT in January - or shoudl I say it was one on the list of about 12 cars i "nearly bought" :) - seriously though - ticks a lot of boxes - cheap, good poke - sub 8s to 60 for 2.0T version, loads of space, very reliable, good second hand prices as no one wants them etc. But there were two things that stopped me half way. And the same goes for Outback which I also considered.

One - absolutely loud inside. All three Foresters I drove - and all were 2006/2007 face lifted examples - they were like sitting in open back of Toyota Hilux at 60 mph - on motorway you get huge rumble from the road with massive tyre noise and having the aerodynamics of IKEA clothing storage unit meant there was loads of odd whistling and wooshing around the cabin too.

Two - official importers are insanely greedy douche bags. These are the guys behind almost complete collapse and demise of Isuzu and Daihatsu in UK and they are on their best way to kill Subaru in Britain as well. In Japan and US Subaru Forester or Outback is a £12-13k simple, honest suburban run around. Imported to UK, they suddenly become 22-25k vehicles. Prices to trade are so unreasonable that many indies and even Subaru dealers over the last 10 years began sourcing unofficial imports from places like Cyprus to keep prices competitive. And the same "at least double or nothing" pricing policy goes for parts, spares, serviceable elements, options etc etc. The prices are completely retarded. And so I decided not to go for Subaru - one shouldn't feed trolls and encourage douchebaggery - there are just too many options available.

This is the Hyundai she bought, its more safety features than the subaru with side air bags. so i guess she made a good decision.
