Diesel soft-tops

Far better than a 2.0 TDI.

I'm not quoting exact figures because I'll get shot down in flames for being 0.0001 out, but if someone really doesn't care about what engine, the diesel may be a better option simply because they get twice as many miles out of a tank of juice, which again may be more of a decision maker than tork hp and handling

Why would you buy a soft top to get loads and loads of miles out of a tank of juice? If you are going to do so much driving that fuel economy becomes important why not chose the A4 Saloon instead, much more suited for that task and a far better partner for the 2.0 TDI?

I sometimes do long journeys, this is why I don't want a convertible.

I have done a long journey in a convertible. It annoyed me and was irritating.

why are you going on about 6pot BMs for?

you said yourself, you want to hear either a good engine or nothing, not a diesel. that is your own personal preference.

Because you seem to think that I believe everyone should have the same preferences as me. Therefore, obviously, they must all get a 6 cylinder BMW. After all, thats what this thread is about - me thinking everyone should think like me!

I want to hear a good engine, not nothing, really. I'm suggesting, however, that if you don't want to hear a good engine, you might instead prefer to hear nothing.

what about when you wont really hear the engine anyway because you are in a city?
engine choice for sound then means nothing.

Who really does enough miles in a Convertible to notice the real world MPG saving?

It might not be about a mpg saving it might be about the number of times you have to fill up in a week, I ride a 125 to work everyday on the plus side I get there in half the time on the negative side I have to fill up every four days, in my car it's once every two weeks, now when I'm deciding what I prefer the fill up bike goes on the negative side and the time would go on the plus, it's called a balanced argument not just "it's noisy therefore it's crap and your a retard for buying it"

Thats almost 50,000 miles a year in a soft top.

Nice.

We've found the one person in the world who the diesel cabrio is designed for! Sounds like he forgot to tick the 'Coupe' box, though.

Nah last chance for a half decent car as the scheme changes soon, so he's taking advantage and having the merc and choose diesel as he wont be fully expensed any more.
I'm sure there are plenty more people like it, i just happen to know one.

(his previous cars were mostly big engine petrol coupes, last one was a new shape TT).

thats a terrible reason. saving 20 mins a month or something!

If I didnt want to fill up much I'd buy a 7 Series and a tinopener. That way you get a convertible AND a 100 litre fuel tank, so you only need to fill up once a month.

Fox do you ever stop to think, maybe people dont give a crap if its diesel or not?

Not everyone must own some form of petrol car with more then 240 BHP

oh lawdy. i would edit that quickly to something less retarded before other people see it!

obviously not, hence the thread. no one can tell him either.

Totally, because my posts in this thread have all been 'Why doesnt everyone instead buy a cabrio with a massive engine'

I have not once mentioned performance. That's absolutely not the point. The convertible experience is for many not about performance. I respect that.

Why? it's a decision factor some people use when buying a car and it's related to MPG which is another factor people make choices on.

Not everyone spends months deciding what car to buy, researching, test driving, getting opinions, some people decide they need a new car pop to local dealer look at the headline specs and buy, there's many more people that do that because they have better things to worry about lke family / jobs / relationships / houses / making money / education etc
