Virgin Media Dilemma

Recently me and my Partner moved in to our own flat. When we moved in we were discussing getting Virgin Broadband, when my Cousin offered to transfer her current Virgin Broadband to our address as she was moving back in with her Parents so we agreed as this was helping us out and helping her out so she didn't have to pay for her monthly bill when she wasn't even using it.

Now we've started to get loads of letters saying that she still owes £90.38 from her previous address and now they've sent it over to a Debt Collection Agency who is now also sending letters to our home.
When she 1st transferred the Broadband over to our address they made her aware that £90.38 would have to be paid in the coming weeks which she said she would ring and pay when we got the bill, and she hasn't!
They have told her that it won't effect the services at our address.

We are wondering if we can ring Virgin and explain that she is not living here and that we just pay the bill, without getting cut off?
We are not sure if that is allowed or not, if it is then we would ring them and giver them her address to stop the letters coming here.

If not, then we will just have to cancel it and get it in our own name.

Thanks :)

can pay it if you want to, wasn't she meant to be paying it though?

Who's names it it in? if you get her to phone up virgin media you can get it transferred to your name, but it will start a new 12 month contract and she has to initiate it. Unless you now the security details and lie.

Ring them and have a chat.

But if you can get it O2 broadband is the best so far.

When companies cold call me I tell them I have O2 (With £5 off a month for also having a mobile contract) and they just hang up.

Yeah she is supposed to be paying it which is why we havent.
We're not sure about going in to another 12 month contract as we were thinking about going with Sky TV and Broadband.

We do know her security details so could we ring up and give them another billing address without being cut off?

As long as you don't mind lying and braking several laws.

If you have all the security details you can do what ever you want.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of ringing as me and just explaining that she doesnt live here and that we pay the bill. Not sure if that would work though :(

Nope, I've tried it before.

You need a completely new account, unless they initiate a change of name. Eitherway tied into a 12month contract.

if you have security details and don't mind paying her share just pay bills over the phone on there automated system.

Ok, s'pose we'll have to do that.

We aren't paying her share, she has ran that bill up with phone calls so we aren't paying for it.

Thanks for your help :)

surely you will be cut of then?. Have you asked her for the money?

Thats what we thought but I rang Virgin and they said that because she transferred it to a different address, they are classed as 2 different accounts, even though they are in the same name. So we won't get disconnected.

I thought it was strange, but never mind, we won't complain :)

I have asked her for the money a few times but she always says she doesn't have any money.

I'm surprised anyone would go down that route.

Usually there are better offers for new customers than for existing ones. I've got VM Broadband via cable and it's a thousand times better than BT Landline at work. VM customer service can be called free from their landlines (150(?) or 151(?), they do try to help obviously better if you can speak Hindi or Urdhu!

They have a forum base: http://community.virginmedia.com/ where their experts (Ex= Hasbeens, Sperts = Drips Under Pressure) try to help existing customers provided they're prepared to wait half a life time!
