£641 on buying games from steam in 12 months

Oh and I dont think that over £600 for what is clearly a hobby is a lot at all. Its your money, you spend and enjoy it.

In the past year I've spent £49.63 on Steam and bought:

Time Gentlemen, Please!
Ben There, Done That
Ghost Master
Puzzle Kingdoms
Eve Online
Serious Sam Double Pack
Civilization III Complete
Max Payne 1 and 2
Deus Ex 1 and 2
Torchlight
Super ID Software Pack
Broken Sword 2
Everquest: Seeds of Destruction
Indigo Prophecy
Luxor 3
Commander Keen Complete Pack
Knights of the Old Republic
Plants vs. Zombies

Not bad at all :D

chaparral - How many games you got on your steam account?
That's a fair amount, I wonder how many games you have?
One or two ;)

Yeah, it's not 100% accurate probably because Valve / Steam have changed tons of their packages over the years which include free games and such! I'm guessing the calculator gets confused :D

Ah okay thanks for clearing that up. In that case I guestimate about $850 total so £561 since I started Steam, probablly £150 over the last year.

£310 in the last since July last year, works out to less than £26 a month.

Or the price of one new title a month.

For my money I've had 37 games from Steam, most of which have been new games bought within a few months of release.

That's a ridiculous amount, I don't understand the steam effect. There is no way you can of played all of them.

spent £42.61 and most of those games I didn't like, but then I don't like many games, but when I find one I like I'll play it for a few years.

£641 is quite a lot but not overly extreme if it's the only place he buys games, that's less than £50/month. Plenty of people spend that on other forms of entertainment (going to live sporting events, going to gigs and festivals, going on holidays, going out/drinking, smoking, sky tv etc).

I reckon most serious gamers (excluding ones that just focus on one or two online games) that don't pirate spend at least a couple hundred a year on games. Getting one game at £17.99 every month is more than that.

edit: One more thing I'd add looking at the screenshot above is that there are a lot of good games there, not a lot of filler. Whereas I've been suckered into buying some drivel like the Meridian4 pack: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4347/ (was only 14 quid in the sale but then there's not many of those games I'll actually bother playing).

.

so true.

If theres a game i want i usely wait a few months after its released. I wanted mass effect 2 but what i did was played mass effect 1 when it got released and completed it (today) and bought mass effect 2 for 1/2 the original price.

I bought rfactor and GTr2 when they came out. Im still playing them, i got all my valve games for less than £15. Theres about 12 odd. I bought crysis and crysis warhead in a competitor shop for £6. Yes together. Fallout 3 and bad company 2 are the only current gen games i bought as soon as they came out. Bought a few expansion packs for fallout 3 and ... i admit torrented one of them.

I love gaming but i never spend my money on games. All my money goes to wards kart racing ot my college.

The difference is there's no way he can of played even half those games, there's just not enough hours in the day.
It's not os much the cost but the waste of money on games you can't play and like everything they drop in price.

Supporting the british games industry partly, good job. How much is a wow sub for a year, that'd all go abroad I guess

Reminds me of someone I used to know with a bookcase of DVD but most of them were still in the cellophane.
Kinda tragic when a large number of people in the world work 10 hours a day and dont gain 60p for their efforts then starve to death or die of cholera or some such, life is unjust :o

I've spent £100 in the last year which got me around 50 games, so that's a pretty good deal imo! Only ever buy in the sales, as their prices are normally extremely uncompetitive.

wow - are you just a collector? i can't think of that many titles I wanted to purchase this year, really haven't been that many games worth buying tbh

Am starting to feel like that.....

If i see any games i like on one steam sales/weekend deals etc then i buy it.....
I worry about when i can find the time to play them later..

What really funny & crazy is that i bought all these games and i gone back to playing through crysis 1 for a second time instead playing my new unplayed games

I also have a number of Steam games I've hardly played or even not played at all... doh.

Yet I go back to old favourites regularly :D
