I just bought this board and have set up the rig. I decided to overclock today and at first attempt put the vcore up to 1.4 vcore, 9x multiplier and 400fsb (3.6 ghz). Board took this no problem and appears to run very stable.
My cpu idle temp is 44c and gaming load temp 65c. When I run prime 95 the core temp rises to about 73c which I believe is too high, do you think I should lower the vcore and try again or just lower the fsb??

p.s ambient temp is around 15c

73c is fine when stress testing, above 75c id be more concerned. Definitely try lowering the voltage.

Your temps seem quite high for an ambient temp of 15C tbh, try putting it back to stock and check the idle temps again. You might need to try seating the cooler again.

It's a XIGMATEK 1283 with arctic silver 7 paste iirc
I also have 3x 120mm scythe case fans.
I will put back to stock to try the temps

Thanks very much for your replies Setter. I did some searching and founds some posts by you stating that you got 3.8ghz out of a Q6600 on air. Can you tell me a bit more about this please, cooler, paste, board etc?

The cooler used was a thermalright ultra extreme black, both this and the cpu were lapped, paste used was arctic silver 5 and the mobo was an asus p5q deluxe p45 chipset board.

Them temps are ok for the Q6600

I idle round 40 degrees C and Stress temps are at 70 degrees C, this is using the Corsair H50, I thought my temps would be a little lower but thats just using normal thermal paste and at 3.8Ghz on the Q6600.

I have just bought some AS3 so might give it a try.

Cheers guys I might have a go at reseating the cooler. I put one strip of paste on each of the three heat pipes so maybe I put too much on?
I also think I may need a bolt down kit rather than them damn push fit things.

Got a similar cooler to yours (see sig), it's fitted with a crossbow, can definitely recommend getting one.

Update:
I took the cpu off and lapped it and the cooler, applied paste very carefully as per the thread above. My results, on full load at 27c ambient I was pulling 77+c on Prime 95 :(
Lapping has made virtually no difference. I am thinking maybe the 1500rpm Scorpion s1283 fan is not up to the job so I may replace, either that or the 1.3125 vid chip is rubbish!
