What's the deal with this? Is it a cult classic or just awful? It seems to have been absolutely slated upon release!

I did give a try a few years back but I fell asleep! Is it worth a go?

Film I take it? One of my favourite films, though I am a bit of a David Lynch fan regardless.

I like the film myself. It misses stuff out from the novel as you'd expect but then again the novel is epic. They're supposed to be making another film of it.

It seemed like complete nonsense to me but it was enjoyable enough. Nowhere near Lynch's usual standard but worth a go if you've got a couple of hours to spare.

The film Dune went way over budget and bombed at the box office yet the film draws you in.

People moan when hollywood release formula movies and then when something with a bit of originality comes out they slate it to high heavans.

I found Dune to be a bit disturbing but its a classic and one of my favourite sc-fi films.

I didnt know that they were remaking it.

To put it bluntly the movie is **** but through no fault of it's, it was supposed to be nearly 4 hours long to give the story justice, it was then hacked down to 2 hours and turning it into some grotesque shadow of it's former self.

However, it's based on one of the greatest Sci-fi stories of all time which does earn it a few brownie points.

David Lynch's Dune is a great movie, Obviously hacked down a lot but the visuals, atmosphere and the music are great. Its like watching a moving painting, the same I feel about Blade Runner and other movies of this period.

one of my most favorite films.
listened to all the dune audio books up to part of chapterhouse then stopped before i started considering suicide, the dune books are good but depressing bleak outlook on the future of mankind.

the graphically horrific descriptions of Erasmus experiments made me queasy too.

I saw the movie first as a teenager round a friends and its always been a personal favourite of mine despite its flaws and the reactions from other movie fans. I own the soundtrack too which is pretty strong and the Prophecy Theme was what first captivated me.

A fan on the internet (Spicediver) has restored the movie to a 3 hour version which incoporates some of the hacked footage which was only available on a US DVD or shown on US TV...I strongly recommend you download this version (but only if you own the original DVD) it has the original opening intro as well as many additional scenes/dialogue. Lynch took on a difficult project and faced an uphill struggle and what with the cuts made...

I think the worlds and people Lynch bought to life where intriguing so much so that I purchased and read the original Dune trilogy just out of interest (seemed a logical step)...many people who read the books first didn't/don't like the film. The novel is much more complex, but I like the detail.

I can also remember playing Dune: The Battle For Arrakis on the Sega Mega Drive in the early 90s. There was also a TV movie made for Sci-Fi Channel with William Hurt, but I felt that it lacked emotion.

Yeah the Fan edited one is amazing he's done a really good job.

The movie is good one of my fav sci fis

the 2 parter that was on sci fi chan is also decent, a more complete but no where near as good as the book.

They are both very different in style but also it borrows from the movie.

Never read the books but watched the film a couple of weeks ago and thought it was really good. A bit weird, but good.

And it's got Sting in it.
