Thinking slightly outside the box here.... Why bother with a 2.1 home cinema kit at all?
Here's the rest of the logic...
1) Unless you have significantly more money than the £200 in your budget, then the rear surround effects (if that's the effect you want) from a cheap 2.1 system will suck
2) If you are just listening in pure stereo (2.1) then there's really no need for Pro-logic/Dolby Digital/DTS decoding etc. Everything could be connected by stereo phonos
3) By definition, a larger propertion of the budget for a cheap 2.1 movie system will be going on processing chips and licencing fees that you're not really getting the benefit from, and that leaves less money for the good stuff like decent amplification and speakers that actually sound nice rather than just boom and tizz.
So, why not consider a stereo hi-fi system instead?
1) Almost every bit of AV gear has some way of connecting to a stereo amp
2) It's very mature tehnology, so the makers concentrate on quality rather than bells & whistles, so you get a better sound for your budget
3) 3) A simple stereo system will produce a far more enjoyable sound than an equivalent priced budget 2.1 system
Have a look at the R i c h e r Sounds site. They sell the Q Acoustics 1020i bookshelf speakers (£80 - much better than the cheaper 1010i model) or the floorstanding 1030i model at £120. These have the added advantage of a bit more bass than the bookshelf jobs, and there are more sensitive too so will be an easier load for the amp.
To drive them have a look at the Cambridge Audio Topaz amps at £80 and £120, or the Denon PMA510 if remote control is a
must have feature - £150
