Bran's new House with Home Cinema

Taken with phone, so quality is lacking

Cooker, the projector is going to be in the dining room. Odd I know, but logistics of the house have lead to this. The living room isn't really the right shape. The 3rd bedroom is too small, and the other rooms are taken. So the kitchen becomes part of the aesthetic for the room.

OK, I like the kitchen. My mother was a chef, and I intend to do a lot of cooking. Aparrently this will be cupcakes, personnally I doubt any cakes will be cooked by myself. Probabaly roast dinners and pizza. Though I can do popcorn, and have a lot of it in the cupboard at the flat.

View of the dining/cinema room ceiling. I was intending to have a standard light. Hanging down, and getting in way of the projected image. Then my brain kicked in, and it only costed me having spotlights in the kitchen to get permission to change the lights in the dining room. Plus one point to Andrea.

The white box at the bottom of the ladder, on top of the tiles, contains the projector mount. I'd love to claim its platinum inlayed with jewels, and fully motorised to be able to project onto the moon. Its amazing what you can get for £15.

Radiator shot. I love heating. Especially in a house thats never had it. Just wish I'd got air-con atm;

Plans for the next week,l finsh painting the bathroom (small but very sexy, just like my wife), paint the kitchen (if we ever decide on a colour), mount the screen and projector, run speaker cable, wire up the patch panel. Oh, and install a washing machine, apparently the missus thinks thats important.... Carpets are due in on the 24th, at which point equipment can start moving.

the projector is going in the dining room, so is the screen going in the dining room or living room?

i also notice 2 windows (1 in living room and 1 in dining room) wont these affect the picture? or will you be covering them up when using the projector?

how far away is the projector going to be from the screen?

how big will the screen be?

also isn't it better to have dark coloured walls which are matt when using a projector?

This is looking great compared to the initial set of pictures.

It's pretty cool that you inherited the house and were able to use the house, so mould it to however you saw fit.

Both the screen and the projector will be in the dining room, normal TV will be in the living room.

Yes they will, but there is a cunning invention called curtains, that I suspect I'll make substantial use of. Already have a nice heavy set of dark ones purchased.

about 10' 4" to 11' 4". There is a joist running parallel to the window, and the screen will be bolted to that. The projector mount will probably require a noggin putting between some of the joists at the other end of the room. The floor above is also uncarpetted, so access to the joists is still fairly simple.

how big will the screen be?

92"

Yes. They are matt at least. However as the downstairs part of the house is open plan and its not a dedicated room, it all comes down to compromise. I had considered the third bedroom, but its not really big enough, and is not at all social.

thanks for the reply - i just redecorated my room and its got magnolia walls, so thats why i stayed away from a projector setup and bought a plasma. ill need to see the final pics to see if it makes a substantial difference or not and may decide in a projector at a later date.

I've been using the projector in the bedroom at my flat, that also has offwhite walls. The curtain makes it dark enough during the day (or I can turn up the brightness), and it looks great. There is a lot of light bleed from the side of the projector, but the image is good, and thats when projecting directly onto the wall rather than the screen. When its all connected I'll take some shots of it running for you.

I have magnolia walls too. It's not the perfect environment for a PJ of course, but it's by means a show stopper. Controlling the light levels is much more important. It really does look fantastic. :)

we are in a new build too and its absolutely amazing to be able to get stuff wired into the walls rather than having wires everywhere!

Funny you mention about the "spare" being called a nursery, thats what my wifey called it and we ended up with a little girl!

Hmm... I must remember not to make plans, that way it doesn't look like I've not done anything...

Bathroom is painted, lots of floorboards have been replaced (don't plane your hands kiddys, its messy and it hurts), the washing machine has been installed. Patch panel is vaguely in place, but I'll have to go and get some rawlplugs other wise is likely to be knocked off. Skirting boards, staircase and window sills have been painted. The hooks for the projector, and the projector mount are now attached to the ceiling, possibly the first time I've used trigonometry since school, if I have it right the throw distance will be spot on, if not, ah well, can always drill more holes. Got a bit of painting to do this evening (1 wall, couple of spots), and a trapdoor to rebuild. Missus will be cleaning windows. Then tomorrow is carpets.
