Which retro game had the best music?

I'd have to back Super Mario Kart, simple yet it never got old and also terriffic F-Zero X the best being Mute City. Unfortunately only sample length.

For me the most memorable/best soundtrack is Secret of Mana on the SNES.

Into The Thick of It is my favourite track.

Overall its' just a damn awesome soundtrack but that track in particular makes me think of back then and how much I enjoyed the SNES. Best console ever!

Edit: Seems I had a typo.

My favourite retro tracks, too many Sonic tracks from the Megadrive and Mastersystem to name them all

Turrican 3 - Level 1(Amiga version)

Donkey Kong Country 2 - Bramble Blast

Streets of Rage 2 - Stage 3

Castlevania Dracula X - Stage 1

But the PC Engine version was better as it was properly composed

Not sure if this is retro enough yet but its well known Castlevania classic. Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Dracula's Castle

Megaman X4 - Magma Dragoon

We should make a rule where if you make a post you have to include a video with some music.

Streets of Rage has been listed and the intro to the first one is classic imo. :)

Seen MGS and MGS4 posted, but MGS2 clearly had the best theme:
Those epic last 30seconds or so still give me goosebumps.

Shadow of the Beast. Stunning game at the time (1989) for both graphics and sound (how many layers of parallax scrolling), shame the gameplay was a bit ropey, a real demonstration of what the Amiga could do.

Sonic 3 would take some beating:

This one still haunts me with a sort of epic terror that no other game since has done.

Road Rash 1 & 2. Still remember feigning sickness to get off school and play this.

Starwing

The music for those games was just Grade A throughout. 16-bit era was badass!

Anyone else play Bust-A-Groove on PS1? It's a very rare game and I still have mine in mint condition. I've got the even rarer Bust-A-Groove 2 which was NTSC only.
