Looks like another one of our pet Guinea pigs maybe passing away soon and will probably upset my little sister. Hasn't touched his drink , wont eat just lays flat in the same place. At first we tried giving him water as we suspected dehydration and at first it looked good as he drank some , took him to the vet just incase and they suggested the same.

However he's got worse now , won't drink or eat just spits out any food/water given to him via a syringe. Lays in the corner , no poo's of any kind and everything remains untouched. I could feal his little bones and at first i thought he was dead just didn't respond at all. Not sure how this has happened , he was always kept out of the shade and never in an area of intense heat. He's the very hairy kind btw :(

Take him to the taxidermist, tell your little sister he is playing a game of 'who can stay still the longest'.

Put him in shade, if you have a fan, put it on the slowest settings and just blow it into the cage. will help cool him down

lol Azza...

The pet has been in doors all week , has had a fan on him and out of the sun.. He should not be overheating anymore if anything he should be recovering. This makes me wonder if something else is going on , every now and then as he sits there his body jerks

Can you not afford to get him to a vet this evening? If not I trust he will be going first thing in the morning?

The vet also suggested dehydration or heat stroke basically we described what was going on to him. He did a full over check and said he looked generally healthy ( breathing , teeth ). But the animal has all but given up now , reading up on google it's looking it could well be that because he hasn't eaten his digestive system has given up.

If he is 5 years old - he may be on his natural way out.

Are you sure he hasn't been near any other rodents or eaten something poisonous. Rodents are very suseptable to Lung Infections and diet disorders (possibly caused by dodgy food in the heat) - Is he lifeless and basically not responding to you moving him (with his eyes staring every so often) - or just wanting to not move anywhere whilst giving you a quick evil stare every time you try and shift him.

That's why I asked if he lived near or on a farm. Guinea pigs are susceptible to flystrike which can be caught from farm animals.

I thought he was dead earlier today , but the thought of dodgy food in the heat is always a possibility. However we have made sure he was clean , whatever happened to him has come on very quickly in the space of a week or less

Ahh sorry mate , no

We do have other animals in the shed where this guinea pig was kept however not in the same cages. We have another piggy which so far is far older and still doing fine and also two rabbits.

The brown and white one is 8years old!

This ill one :( is only 3 or 4

Wow 8 is old. So I'm guessing you take pretty good care of them. Are they getting enough fresh food like lettuce, carrots, apple, spinach and so on?

in some countries they eat guineapigs... but if yours is all bony from not eating then i guess you might not want to bother.

This is the 2nd post I have read from someone who obviously doesn't understand what the OP is asking (and the other posts have been deleted by the Mods because they were just too juvenile to read & bordered on being offensive)

For Gods sake.... the OP has stated that if the pet dies it will upset his little sister (who obviously loves it and has treated it with respect, and has tried to save it -and cared for it as her friend) and he has asked for some help to save a pet that they have had for a long time.

The least you can do is show some respect, and at least give a decent response to the question - or refrain from posting if possible. Have you ever had a Dog or Cat die at a young age and then joked about it in a similar fashion. Most people already know that they are used as food in some countries - but your joke is tiresome and unfunny in this instance, as was the deleted post referring it to being "cool".

Had 2 guinea pigs a couple of years ago, both girls.

One got ill every so often and was a little weird but stayed alive until she was around 6/7, she just died over night... The other one lived will she was 8 :O at that point she wasn't doing much at all, to old to run around the run and just sat in the same place all day. There were a few fly's flying around and we got concerned and the odd maggot or two.
A couple of days later over night she just got riddled of them.. it was disgusting to see :( took her to the vets, and got her put down...
They can live for a long time to be fair!

Hope he gets better :)
