Whatever happened to Roller Blading

our roads are full of pot holes , our paths arent much better , most skate parks are overrun by skate boarders and the weather is usually crap.

its no surprise they arent popular

yeah, thats why i used to go to my mates new build estate, couldn't afford the bauer stuff, had a pair of pony ones i think.

Anyone remember in the early 90's when it was trendy to have a plastic board covering a wheel on your mountain bike or when scooters were cool way before those silly mini scooter jobs, how about the ketter go carts they were awesome.

I was big into inline skating from the mid to late 90s. Started out on Roces Majestic 12s with the low cut. Everyday after school me and my brother would take our home made ramps out into the street and practice. Also used to nick scaffolding poles of varying sizes to use for grinding. On weekends we'd head down to Belfast and skate all over the city. I remember about 5 or 6 of us getting pulled by the police for skitching on the back of the buses to get around. Used to buy Unity magazine, had all the Hoax videos. My mates and I managed to get our pictures in an American mag who were over doing a tour of the UK. For the life of me now I can't remember what the hell the mag was called. But it's probably long dead. Like the majority of mags.

Moved on to BMX eventually though and trial riding. Still ride now and again, but nowhere near as much as when I was in my teens.

I used to play roller hockey, it was actually amazing fun and i wish i never gave it up :)

Really brilliant in fact!

it doesn't help that in 99% of places that you'd want to rollerblade to (when using them as a means of transportation and not just larking about in the park) they're prohibited because of Health & Safety

i've actually been hit by cars more times then I've fallen over in my rollerblades. (don't have a pair anymore :()

I used to play ice hockey so naturally did some roller skating to practice outside the rink with my friends. Stopped that a while ago so not much point now and even if I got some, the roads round here are terrible so would be nowhere decent to do it. I'd love to get back on the ice though, but nearest ice rink is canny hike away from here.

at uni last year and the year before i only lived about 5 minutes walk away from the Coventry Ice Dome :D :p

still only went a few times though :( lousy lazy ass friends...

I had FX2s! :D

Just a fad really, same with everything. Well except for computers now, they are a very longtime fad!

Remember Yo-Yos? Brilliant, I had some expensive pro yo-yo. Cost about £15!

Bauer Turbos with Senate twin/tri-colour wheels and hockey socks was where it was at.

My friends were all good at rollerblading, I remember my dad bought me a shiny set of blades once so I could get into it. I fell off in an epic way within a few minutes of having them.

They went back in the box, fast!

My worst fall was landing backwards and whatever happened (probably a large stone in my wheels) I went arse over tit and managed to smash one of my front teeth out. Smashing teeth out is a horrible feeling. So is picking tarmac out of your mouth for the following few days.

I used to go to the skatepark nearly everyday for about 2 years when I was 16, then moved too far from a decent park!

Still got my Solomon ST One's in the loft, I miss it :(

Plenty of people skating along the seafront here. There's also one guy, must be about 45-50, rake thin, looks straight out of California, who rollerboots everywhere around town. I see him pass up my road at least once a week at a fair lick.
