Driving, women vs men?

Depends if you class lifting off the brake and moving to the accelerator as heel toe. If there's a risk of rolling back then I'll use the handbrake. I don't particularly like it when people roll back towards me so I don't do it ether.

Do you mean lifting off of the brake and engaging the throttle at the same time with the same foot? If so, I find that very impressive - It must be incredibility difficult to apply the correct amount of throttle with the limited movement available with the "heel"?

I use the same foot but not at the same time! I'll lift off the brake and swivel my foot to the accelerator. Maybe I've got the definition of heel and toe confused.

HTing for starting off is stupid. It's intended for the situation where you cannot use a handbrake for slowing down, stationary you can.

As confident as you are doing it one day you might stall and put your car into the front of someone sitting on your arse.

I use the handbrake almost always if I am going to be stopped for more than a couple of seconds. Better for quick get-aways when lights are about to change/road clears too, just before the bite point, right foot poised for take-off etc

Agreed.

The way my clutch is designed if I rode mine it would wear out quicker (and not just the clutch plates!)

Really can't see the point in riding the clutch (however small the wear and tear is) when the handbrake is the easiest option.

I was taught clutch control on a hill in the first place ( I did wonder and ask if it was not bad for the clutch to hold it on the clutch, he said it wasn't that bad ) , but later with the handbrake. As a result, at start I did indeed use the clutch on small inclines. These days I just use the (hand)brake instead to give my clutch an easier time.

My mum is great at driving, she's the only one that doesn't fit the normal woman driving style.

However, she is rubbish at throwing a ball, peace is restored

My mother is a paramedic but I would still whoop her around a track or point to point.

She would whoop me in a Stupid Tonne wagon though (read - her patient would still be alive when we arrived. :D)

I was taught to use handbrake to a point where I think I developed deep hate for it since I barely use it while driving. I just tend use to use the clutch or even brakes as the vans at work had this system where if you use a brake on the hill it automatically stopped the car from rolling back for a split second as you started moving again (I'm sure someone clued up knows what the system is called).

I remember why I do hill starts on the clutch - when I was learning to drive I was using my mum's C Class. Foot-operated parking brakes suck.

Don't these have some ingenious trick to stop you rolling backwards on hill starts?

Womens know best.

Unless it was an epic hill, in the megane, I used to sit on the footbrake or just let the clutch take the strain without any gas, it wasn't my clutch so I didn't mind :D

Handbrake in the polo now, it is my clutch lol.

I get the feeling I'm one of the minority on the roads today I use my handbrake in most situations when I will be stopped for more than a second or two. And I almost never ride the clutch.

Ditto. I use my handbrake all the time. Mainly because having a pair of brake lights glaring in my face when it's dark ****s me off something rotten so I try to spare others :D
Also it's generally safer if someone goes into the back of you.

With living on a steep hill I've always used the handbrake and very rarely hold it on the clutch.

Just to throw my 2p in RE never using a handbrake......admittedly this is really only relevant to times when there is a fair bit of traffic but still, Do people enjoy sitting behind someone in traffic who is just sitting on the footbrake? Have you ever noticed how blindingly bright brake lights actually are?

I hate it, especially in the winter when it gets darker quicker. there's nothing worse when your stuck in rush hour traffic and the tool in front of you is just sitting there on his footbrake dazzling you with the brake lights for however long your stuck in traffic for. reminds me of people & fog's in non-foggy weather :(

Edit: as above lol that'll teach me for writing a post in between doing other jobs!

It really annoys me when people won't squeeze up to the parked cars properly as well, occasionally I have had to mount the kerb in these situations because these incondsiderate ****'s won't move over into their massive gap and i'd hit them, they look at you as if its your fault like you should stop when theres clearly enough room for the both of you but they obviously can't drive to save their life. If I can do it in a transit you can do it in your nissan micra love, grr...

Had some stupid woman in a vomit-green Vulva do this to me yesterday. Cars parked down both sides but the road is like an avenue, plenty of room. She's left about 5', no word of a lie, between her & the parked cars and as I continue up she's doing that sitting-forward-looking-down-your-nose you do when you're trying to see how much space you have at the front of the car. As we come to pass she brings it to a practical stop, drifting all the time onto my side and I pass through the gap with a few inches between each wingmirror. I give it my usual "bloodyhell woman! you could get a bus through there!" but as it's scorching hot both driver's windows are down & this is yelled full at her face! I only realised once I'd done it. Made me chuckle.

I seriously doubt many people who claim they do actually heel-toe away from a hill start or other standing start. The brake pedal is usually much higher than the throttle so getting your heel down to give a controlled amount of gas while you simultaneously lift your foot is nigh on impossible.

And for the record, women or anyone else who rock back & forward on the clutch need to go off & practice clutch control. It isn't at all hard to hold a normal vehicle on the biting point & balance the gas so that it doesn't move. Any more than a few seconds & you should use the handbrake.

And yes, your high level, high intensity brakelight is a royal pain in the arse, you inconsiderate spacktard!
