Looking to go to Turkey with the Girlfriend in September and wondered if anyone could recommend a decent hotel and place? As usual i before i book a hotel i always do some research on the hotel reviews but so far i cant find a half decent one LOL. Perhaps anyone who has been to Turkey can vouch for a decent hotel?

Well I haven't been yet, but am going to Olu Deniz in 4 weeks with the gf. She's been there a couple of times and absolutely loves it. Look up the Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz, the beach is supposed to be incredible, hotels around there are varied from very nice to very basic, lots of restaurants etc nearby too.

Me and my other half went to İçmeler about 2 years ago now, it's quite close to the popular tourist bit of Marmaris but it's just far enough away to have a lot less people.

We stayed at: http://www.hoteldevamli.com/

Lovely hotel, amazing staff, don't be fooled by the swimming pool pictures though, it's not that nice and can be shaded but that's the only downside.

Also, on our last night we went out for the day and came back to rose petals all over the bed which was a nice touch :)

Only been once about 3 years ago. Hotel was great (all inclusive) apart from the entertainment was horrendous. This German guy during the entertainment started yelling stuff out haha and then they asked me if he wanted a 'go' and he did :D

Trying to remember the hotel's name..
Though to be fair once you went outside of the hotel it wasn't that great.. we managed to catch a bus to the town and then a 'train on wheels' to the centre. On the way walking around it wasn't the nicest place by far.. And on the way back the taxi driver nearly killed us so!

I'm sure there are nicer places, though 99.9% of the time we were in the hotel so :D

i'm off to club alla turca in dalyan on friday. its a great place, no clubs, a few bars, good restaurants, mud baths, turkish baths, turtle reservation, markets, good beaches, etc. have a look at the reviews on tripadvisor - i'd totally recommend it

Been a couple of times now.

Olu Deniz, LykiaWorld- with its Blue Lagoon and great beach is a good place to head to. As long as you don't mind the mad Johnny foreigners jumping off mountains with parachutes on:) Night life is not too bad and plenty of restaurants, very little hassle from locals too. Its quite compact resort and can get busy. Short bus trip to Fetiyhe, which was nice as it was less touristy. Also access to a lot of trips to Dalaman, where they have mud baths, ruins etc etc :) Long transfer from airport though.

Icmeler - This is just outside Marmaris which is considered one of the 'party' destinations of Turkey. Found this to be a lot more 'commercial' than Olu Deniz and the shop keepers were a little more 'grabby'. Although hotel was nice enough.

Found Turkey to be more expensive now they are trying to bring themselves inline with the rest of Europe, ready for their own entry.

In my opinion almost everything about the holiday sucked. :( The hotel served cold food, which should have been hot. The staff spoke barely a word of English, I decided against trying my low-quality French on them. The bar staff played loud sweary rap music at a family hotel until midnight, despite the hotels' own 10pm quiet time rules. The beaches were jam packed from end to end with sunbeds, nearly all empty, but no space to do anything else.

Every single Turkish bar/shop/restaurant owner without exception pestered us from day 1 to day 14 to go into their restaurant etc, despite obvious all inclusive wrist bands, and in some cases were trying to physically pull us into place. Ended up swearing at a lot of them.

It got so bad with a combination of everything that my g/f nearly arranged a flight home and left early. :(

The only redeeming factor was that on our last day, we caught the final tour boat out of Marmaris, which was filled with Dutch people (lovely people who mostly spoke superb English) - including a pair of blonde twins. 20ish. topless.

> And before i get "cool story bro", or even "Brool Story Co." - Yes, I have pics to prove it. And video. :D

I went to Bitez, on the Aegean coast (Southern Turkey) some years ago. It's a small bay, next to two others that are also nice, Bodrum and Gumbet.

Too hot for me at this time of year though! :)

Which hotel was that + what time of year did you go?

I enjoyed Icmeler but we went later on in sept/oct so it was quiet and our hotel was spot on.

To be honest I have forgotten the hotel name, it was fairly central and set back off the beach a bit. Might be the Idas, Google doesnt seem to street view Turkey.

We went at the back end of May, and it wasnt even that warm for the first week.

It was more the people that put me off than anything, just rude, agressive, treating you as a blatant meal ticket for them, rather than as a tourist. And walking past the same restaurant every day to get to the beach being asked if i want food EVERY time.... grrrr... i actually started changing routes just to insult different Turks.

Oh, I suppose the Turkish baths in Marmaris were lovely too... just tried to write that holiday off as a bad experience - except for the blondes of course :D

I wouldnt go back to Turkey again. Ever.

I agree with you on the "hassling", we had it even worse because it was quiet and every shop/restaurant/market stall was like "omg pretty lady you come buy from me, good deal" blahblahblah but you just kinda have to get used to it, soooooooooo many fakes out there as well its untrue.

Been to that Hotel twice, really like it. A bit pricey though.

Personally I would avoid the big cities, I went to the more interesting places like cappadocia and pamukkale, I spent some time in the big cities, but that paled in comparison to those places.

Any decent areas to look out for then? Im looking for hotels + flight via low cost holidays website! Also, is the blue lagoon the same island as the one near Malta?
