We have some hardware that we desperately need to provision etc. Only to find another dept / area of the IT team have taken all of the 300GB disks - 14 of them.

So were currently left errr high and dry, not impressed. It's going to be a blood bath later!

The new strategy for government is obviously pinch it!

tell me about it!
had a dep call me a few weeks back "member of staff left for another department, took three of our computers with her to the other dep because they only had really old ones, what are you going to do?"
nothing, you however are going to man up and take them back, maybe brake a few legs to teach them a lesson they will not forget so easily!

Private sector best practice - the best managers will nick your stuff any make themselves look better at your expense.

We've been locking all our spare equipment up for years (and it still doesn't always stop them )

Nope we're angling for data device removal in a secure data centre. This is a massive no no and I would hope a written warning.

After that then yup keyboard at the ready.

Just makes me take the attitude of why bother.. Hence why I want out of government and back into private sector (although I am working for a private company)

If you don't know where they are or who took them call the police. People might ask in future.

I will be another IT chimp that's taken them for their project! We have our suspects and hope it's the person in question as we want to cut him to size anyway.

Not good though.

New firmware comes avaliable for the MSA to make it stable under ESX4 so we think time to power it up etc.

Every other monkey has thought the same as the EVAs are maxed out (**** poor planning).
