I'm considering buying a 25 foot Yacht but cant seem to find out how much it would cost me to anchor it to Dead weight moorings ?

Ive looked on most Marina websites but all they seem to advertise are berths in a Harbour which cost around £4000 + per year.

I dont want to pay that much.

Anybody know much about Yachting here ?

Depends on the river!

Ring the local harbourmaster. I think thats who you would need to speak to! (Obvisouly not them personally!)

£4k isn't exactly expensive to moor a yacht in the UK unfortunately. I know to moor a yacht in Plymouth is around that much and I'm guessing London and the River Fal are going to be more expensive as they will be more sought after (Falmouth is expensive whichever way you look at it...).

Yacht ownership is expensive... :p

For £4000 you get electricity toilet and shower facilities and 2 weeks dry dock etc also you dont have the need to row out to your boat you can simply walk up to it.

I dont need all this I just want a Dead weight mooring in the bay. Granted Falmouth will be expensive but or a Dead weight mooring £4000 per year ?

The thing is that with most Marinas you have to Inquire by Email for prices.

Yeah it will be cheaper no doubt, however I'd suggest it will still be at least £3k anywhere remotely popular.

What's to stop you dropping your own mooring? Can't be that difficult, fill an oil-drum with cement, some chain, some buoyant rope and a buoy, drop it off the side, moor your yacht to it.

The owner of the rights to the river or the council will probably have a field day with you... ;)

Didnt think it was that simple ? I assumed that when you drop anchor in a waterway your technicaly causing an obstruction and the River authorities have to be notified of your presence. Maybe you could inccur a fine ?

If not then I would definatley create my own mooring.

The cheap end here in Edinburgh is around £15 per foot for a 6 month mooring. No frills obviously.
