My brothers 8800 gts has died and needs replacing, he has all my computer hand-me-downs and isn't as interested in computers and gaming as I am.

He plays Warcraft-like games, football manager, borderlands is probably the most demanding game he has.

Any cards i could recommend for him, considering he won't want to spend lots of money, say around £100-£150ish?

thanks

Either the 5770 or 5830 as mentioned already. But depends on spec and what res - but I'd say those are the best you're going to get for the money - unless you go second hand.

*EDIT*

Forgot, there's a new gen of cards "on the cards" so to speak, due for release Q4 I think - so you could wait and save if you are in the position to.

he's got my old 1280x1024 monitor, and I don't really know his budget, given his lack of enthusiasm it will probably be quite low

The new NVIDIA GTX 460 has just been released and is generally getting very positive reviews and a warm response. AMD should, fingers crossed, respond by dropping prices of 5830, perhaps the 5770 too. I wouldn't hold my breath about the 5850 however. If I were in your shoes I would hold tight for while, if you can, for prices to respond. By the sounds of it he's not really into any demanding games or playing at very high resolutions...ideal would be a price drop on the 5770.

Looks like the new favourite is 460 GTX. A 5770 would be a fine alternative. Prices will be dropping so if you can hold out, you might get a bargin

that was funny, lol

This would be ideal.

Cracking card at that rez and only 10 squid over budget, with DX11 capabilities "done right".

I agree with the recommendation, it can also be found for £150 delivered if you look around, so not £10 over budget then after all ;) it is up to ocuk to match the price.
