Our two died in a very similar way. Stopped eating and drinking, back legs stopped working properly then died. They were both 5-ish so I think it was just old age.

Rubbish.

Good luck OP, there's very little chance that that guinea pig will survive the episode, from bitter experience.

We had tons of Guinea pigs when we were younger, my brothers even took them to shows and won a few rosettes and stuff. Anyway, unfortunately they aren't the toughest of animals, if something like this happens then the outlook isn't good and there often there isn't much you can do, they just give up. Hope for the best but expect the worst.

For Gods sake.... the OP has stated that if the pet dies it will upset his little sister (who obviously loves it and has treated it with respect, and has tried to save it -and cared for it as her friend) and he has asked for some help to save a pet that they have had for a long time.

Hating to point out the obvious but the OP is posting on a hardware overclocking forum asking for medical advice on his guinea pig. What exactly does he expect? some kind of virtual pet exam? Surely the only possible answer he could get is "get the pig to the vet", which he knows/has-done already. I really don't know what kind of advice he is expecting that the vet cannot give him.

PS: He also knows that a lot of juveniles inhabit these forums and some infantile comments should be expected (albeit unjustified).

He's at the vet's and it's looking very much like it's his kidneys , will keep him under observation and care. But it's looking like he will pass to spirit within the week

:(

It annoys me how some morons will make stupid comments in threads about hamsters/guinea pigs/rats/mice dying, but if someone was to say their dog or cat had died nobody would be making idiotic comments.

Sorry to hear about your guinea pig. Although they are "only" small things you get ridiculously attached to them. First time i had cried in like 5 years was when my hamster died.

It sounds like it could just be his time to go. :( Good luck.

He was put down at 9.30am this morning so he will no longer suffer , kidney failure :(

That came on so quick , little sis will be in tears but it had to be done

That's the first thing I suspected when I heard the symptoms. My cat died of the same thing, had me screaming at the vet for a kidney transplant

My condolences

My girlfriend and I had a Guinea Pig that sadly passed away last year. Seemed to have been much the same as you mentioned, very still and quiet. We comforted him as best we could.

It was a very sad time for us because he was such a sweet little creature. Until you've had such a pet, you don't realise how much they cna touch you. I guess it's because they are so small and lovely looking that it really makes you care for them because you feel like you want to protect them.
