My radeon 5870 has lost the battle

Nothing wrong wth the 5870, just because the Nvidia have brought out a new card 400 series. The 5870 is the better card than the 460, overclock it or go xfire to get some extra performance out of it....

I'd rather wait for the next ATI card.

keep your 5870 it

but please promise me you wont go crossfire

and tell NathWraith to keep his 32XAA

How has the 5870 lost to a GTX 460? The 5870 maxes out pretty much every game I have tried. Metro 2033 is the only game which I have to knock AA down on, unless you are running on a 30" screen, Eyefinity, or want stupid high frames per second, I can't see a reason to drop the 5870 at the moment.

Huh, "get next 5870 and XFire it"... Please, give him next 300 quids for such pleasure ;-)
Of course 2xGTX460 are better and just a little bit more expensive than 5870. Stop fanboying, it's just simple calculation. If his mobo can take SLI and his budget let him do it = so do it man and don't look at others ;-) AAx32 is waiting ;-)
I can't see any reason why you couldn't have SLI and if next Radeon 6xxx came up - to swap SLI to new Radeon (if better, of course) ? How much will you loose selling GTX260 ? 10 quids ? ;-)

I'd go for it - sli 460s are a lot of bang for your buck. Considering you're also leaving ATI's wonderful driver support behind, it's win/win (they're still lagging well behind Nvidia on that front)

could you please explain the reasoning behind the driver comment?!

OP

looking at the 460 benches in sli they apear to be extremely good but you do have a very good card as it is. but it's upto you

Ati drivers are utter pants and have been for years.

I've had nothing but trouble with them recently. I've tried 10.2, 10.5, 10.5a and 10.6. All have been troublesome apart from 10.6 so far.

Just for balance, I've been ATi since Jan and had no problems at all with the drivers.

so 10.3, 10.4, 10.4a & 10.6 are fine. What went wrong with the others?

also i've been using ATI since switching from Nvidia for the last 18 months and have not had 1 issue with drivers.

Wrong

Yeah, GTX is sort of overtaking them with their newest drivers and new range.

And yeah, I feel Ati always been bad in my short time with them. All bad :/
