4870 512mb enough fo the odd game at 1080p?

To be honest i used to have a 320Mb 8800GTS and it played most things ok @ 1080p, obviously details werent cranked up to max but it wasnt too bad.

It'll run any game for sure but it comes down to (as mentioned above) what level of details you wish to have. It wouldn't be adequate for me for example. If you're happy with medium / high in most things then that's all well and good.

plays borderlands rainbow six vegas 2 at 1080p with high aa fine 512mb version very good card at that res for the price the only problem is its very hot at idle if you look at the thread ive made called taming the 4870 that will help you lower the temps about 20 deg at idle with out even changing the cooler :)

It's fine without AA - with AA I noticed a huge performance difference between 4870 512MB and 4870 1GB, at the same res you're using.

I haven't come across anything to warrant an upgrade yet. Metro 2033's the only thing i've tried that really hurts it.

I play at 1920x1200.

oh btw if any one owns a 4870 in here check out the overclocking and cooling section made a little guide to save about 40w from idle and drop about 20 degrees when idle

good price i got my 512mb for £60 at 1080 the extra memory would help but wouldnt justify half as much again in price have a read through a little guild i made earlier as they run very hot on idle and that will sort it good perchase and keep us informed how it goes
