Hey guys, after asking and looking for advice on these forums and others, I am still backed up in the corner about making a decision. I need a laptop for work so will be doing things like word processing, internet surfing, some downloading, some gaming, and will be using it quite a lot.

What I do know is I would like to have an i5 CPU and ATi 5650 GPU (or any GPU of same standards that is DirectX 11 ready). So even a nudge in the direction of a laptop with these specs would be great.

My budget is £500-£600. Any input please??

The Toshiba L670-11D fits your spec requirements:

1Gb ATI 5650 GPU - Check
Intel i5-430M Processor Check
Price - circa £800 :(

Not sure if you will find the spec you want in that price bracket though mate!

The Toshiba Satellite Pro L650-165 has a Core i3 and a 5650 for £550. You aren't going to get a laptop with an i5 and a 5650 for less than £700 I don't think.

May get a deal from Dell Outlet, but I mentioned them here so often people may start thinking I get commission :p

yup am finding this difficulty, thanks for backing me up on that guys even though it's not what I (And I'm sure others) wanted to hear lol.

Any reviews/opinions on the Toshiba Satellite Pro L670-11D??

With integrated graphics?

TS, have a look on the Dell website, their studio range should fit your requirements.

Still powerful enough to play games at mid range. If he has desktop pc with high end specs, I don't see the need for a gaming laptop. Save yourself money and just buy a laptop for internet, word ect.

Yep, just bought one myself this week :)

Very nice laptop indeed, solid feeling keyboard (although a little on the loud side, if Im being picky). First thing I did was format it and install Windows 7 Pro 64bit and Ubuntu 10.4 LTS in a dual boot scenario.

Everything running like a dream so far, highly recommended :)

and sorry to sound ignorant but what's Ubuntu 10.4 LTS?

Try HERE to customize a Sony Vaio E series with an Ati 5650 might get something close to your price range. Both my gf and I each bought ourselves one with an i5 520m, 1gb Ati 5650, 4gbs ddr3 a couples back and came in at around £700, but with a slower i5 I guess the price would be around the £650 mark and atm they have a free Blu-Ray Writer offer on.

Seconded, I just ordered a custom built one of these, but with the 430M though, the 520M has been out of stock for over a week and I didn't want to miss out on the free Blu-Ray writer for a taj better processor, then they extended the offer to 26th July, lol.

Anyway mine came to £685 with the 5650 and 4GB RAM.

Is that with a 17.3" screen? By my reckoning you would pay around the £1,000.00 make for a similar spec'd Sony (ie 500Gb HDD, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, 5650 GPU, 4Gb Ram etc)
