I need a new PSU urgently due to my current PSU showing signs of ware. I have a:

Intel i5 750,
ATI Radeon 5850,
2 Hdd's and one SDD,
Xigmatek Asgard Case,

I have had a look at a few today and came up with 3 ideas but I am happy to hear you suggestions. These were the ideas:

a.) Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W

b.) Corsair TX650W

c.) Sapphire Pure 625W Modular Power Supply

They are the ideas and I would like to know which one would be better for my system or any others that are not listed above.

I also know another competitor that sells the XFX Modular 650w for £69.99, That was another suggestion but I cannot list the link and another website which sells the corsair TX650 for £75 instead of £86/£87 on OcUK

Just be aware of warranty support, xfx have been known to be questionable with their graphics card rma, whereas corsair are some of the best in the business.

cheers matty...I haven't got sufficient money yet for the XFX never-mind the corsair so it will be out of the sale by then but thank you for the information, I have a couple of friends that say they never replied to their emails! poor service for a high manufactured product, this needs to be sorted then they might get a higher reputation from there customers instead of slagging them off by never checking there email inbox!

Can't go wrong with pretty much anything that OcUK sell. The OCZ is on This Week Only, good deal. I prefer corsair. A 520W would be ample for your needs.

how did you work out 520w?? I am planning on overclocking my i5 750 from 2.66 GHz to around 3.4 GHz BTW!!! and I want it to be future proof

Corsair generally seems to be pretty reliable for PSUs.

I wouldn't touch the OCZ one on this week only personally - while I'm a fan of OCZ PSUs mostly - I've had several stealthextreme models "gracefully" fail after 12-18 months.

The corsairs are solid units, and there is not much need for anything over 600W unless you are planning on multiple graphics cards. Personally, I have a Corsair HX620W - one of the first ones they brought out. I now have an i7 Oc to 4ghz and a 5850 on it. Still only just gets warm. I plan on attatching it to a power monitor when I get the chance, I have a couple here. I do not expect it to be anything over 500W tbh.

a i7 rig with single 5850 eats around 240w-307w

power supplies work best at about 50-60% load, so a 650w would be ideal

I just used this PSU Calculator and came up with 561W with all the devices and stuff I have inside my PC, so I'm aiming for what you said, 650W will do well and for a little overclock on my i5 750 to around 3.4 GHz

EDIT: somebody just watched Aliens...

:D

I would go for a corsair 5*** watt or if you are feeling rich, a 6*** watt.

Don't look at advertised wattage as the bottom line, look more at a quality unit that has a good reputation and more importantly, a good warranty/RMA service.

OP your system is newer and more power efficient than mine, and my HX620 has never broken a sweat, getting on for 3 years old - I cant say Ive ever felt the air comming out of it has ever been warmer than ambient temperature + 1 or 2 degC from warm case air.

By contrast, the air comming from my CPU exhast has a definate warmth to it..
