World of Tanks Beta

A WW2 Tank MMO? I never thought I'd see the day, been waiting years. Registered for the beta and love the sound of this one.

I just hope it will capture the sort of stuff that goes on in WW2 Online. I love that game but am just no longer willing to pay monthly for it.

Im in tech tree now, looking at at-1, it's highlighted but when i click it there's nothing to press like "research" etc

I have enough credits to buy it in store but i cant cuz it says research, so how do i research it?

Cheers

Give it a go Phonesis, sounds like you may well like the clan mode when it comes.

From the tech tree click on the MS 1 (russian starter tank) and that will lead to its own mini tech tree for weapons/tank upgrades of which one will be the research of the AT-1.

Its a great tank destroyer for its class though it can be easily ripped apart by the auto cannon light tanks. Got my crew up to 75%+ and its so quick to aim and two quick shots takes out anything most of the time.

Tier 3 is an absolute terror to get into as that's the first non recruit (no longer just tier 1 & 2) battles, so a lot of the time you're really out gunned. The PIII A (pretty much the germans standard light tank of that tier) is basically knocked out in one hit and even with its best gun cant harm the majority of other tanks you'll face and its not even got that great speed and turning. Thankfully through a lot of suicide scouting and the odd lucky flank kill I've gotten all the EXP I need from it to research the next tank.

Don't know what I'll get next, tossing between going for the SU-76 TD or PIII medium tank and levelling up my AT-1 crew to 100% before getting the SU-76.

I'm sure I will. I'm always on the look out for online tank combat. Red Orchestra was quite good but the balance was always a bit off (infantry with panzerfausts etc could deal too much damage). Arma II can be good too but I play that more for the FPS element.

WW2 Online is the best I've seen though. Tanks get disabled but not destroyed and you can fight on even with your tracks out etc. As long as this game has a realistic damage modelling system I'm sure I'll like it. That and large maps.

danke Mahnsikir, thats a lot of help.

Phonesis, you'll probly like this, but you should also checkout men of war, amazing tank action. Great damage modelling in that.

this does but they get "repaired" after 10seconds or whatever it is.

tracks get knocked out
turrets get knocked out
turrets cant turn
engine gets knocked out
ammo box sets on fire
fuel tank set on fire

all get repaired but dont work aswell after they have been.

tanks have weak points and sloped armor does what its suposed to.

the maps arent really that big though and theres not many of them but im sure that will change

Yeah its all very geared towards 5-10minute skirmishes within the sizes of the maps, so while it does have many of the realism features found in games like WW2OL, its all scaled down to suit the game so is a bit more faster paced, though its definitely not a game where you can afford not to think before you move.

Anyone happen to have a link to a mirror of the installer? the link on the offical site is going a pitiful 25KB/s, 10 housr remaining :(

Finally got my KV, it's sooo slow compared to the T-28 before it. I think in retail I'm going to go down a medium tank branch because the heavy tanks don't really suit my playstyle. Haven't upgraded the gun yet though, can get a gun that does 700 damage but only shoots twice per minute lol.

I'm finally in my SU-85B and... its rather frustrating now. The jump from recruit battles to facing everything is rather large, you're outclassed at the lower levels just because you can't really penetrate the enemy properly. The rewards are slightly better, even when losing most of the time, but its still not quite as much fun. Basically, avoid enemy tanks with the new symbols above their heads, these mean 'heavy tank' so you aren't really going to do much against one unless you're at their rear armour at close range, where they will probably just turn around and rip you a new one.

lol iviv, sounds a bit scary playng with the bigguns, i think it will be fun to always keep a tier 2 tank.

Yeah, this is going to be a grind and no mistake. Still, got to focus on the others like me who are just here, and just got to hurt them where I can. Eventually I'll have enough exp to fit a bigger gun, that should deal with some of the issues I'm having hopefully.
