Assume this uses some sort of Google cache? Can't understand how it retrieved my gmail address in the top right hand corner.

It's the real google page, loaded into an iframe. When you're browsing your in an iframe within the revolving internet page.

They use some funky css and javascript to slowly rotate the page in the iframe.

Firefox handles it better than chrome for me, although very slow. Chrome is faster but can't lock down flash objects.
