Evening all,

i just restarted my computer after updating 'Nokia Ovie Suite' for my phone, when it restarted, it posted and everything, then it had the flashing underscore for a few seconds. After this, the screen turned black, but it did not go into standby so it must still be recieving a signal. ive rebooted it a few times and it just does the same thing, also have removed all USB devices, but to no avail. so i inserted the Win 7 install DVD and hit repair, however it did not even detect my OS install???

any help much appriciated

cheers

ali

sorry, should have mentioned, ive already tried that, and it doesnt even load the advanced boot options. no splash screen, nothing.

i seem to remember it saying somin bout updating usb drivers or something before i hit restart (when it was working), but im not sure as i clicked it too fast.

could that be it? and if so how would i unistall it (using command prompt from the recovery disk). another thing that might help, is my mouse has been disconnecting then reconnecting recently.

thannks

If it cannot see your installation of Windows, perhaps the hard drive is fault. Maybe check in the BIOS that the pc can see the hard drive. Disconnect and reconnect the hard drive just in case.

is being detected in Bios. have disconnected and reconnected and still nothing past post :(

would there be a way to run msconfig from the recovery disk and force the OS to boot into safe mode?

cheers

Right, I attached the HDD to another computer and booted up the recovery disk and did 'bootrec /fixboot' and start up recovering sed it fixed something but wen I plugged it back into the original pc it still would not boot, will try booting on secondary machine

EDIT: tried booting with secondary machine and for some reason I get about a second of VISTA splash screen and the it hangs and reboots, still can't seem to boot into safe mode on either machine. :/ any suggestions?

The Vista splash screen in win 7 is the recovery section of windows 7. If this reboots your comp then you can try the installation disk and select the recovery section there (when booting from the cd don't be concerned that you have to click on the first instance of install).
Alternatively try downloading Hiren's Boot CD, this will have loads of boot issue fixes and (I suspect is your problems) check disk utils to fix errors on your hard drive.

I have had your symptoms and had to do a reinstall.

ok, i managed to start the safe mode boot, however it got stuck on 'avgrkx64.sys' which i assumed had something to do with AVG, did a bit of googleing and found that renaming this file had allowed PC's to boot. i did this, and then rebooted into safe mode, it got stuck again, on another file, so it cant be that.

anyways ive reinstalled windows now, so now to go through the hassle of installing everything again :(

thanks guys

TIP: Once you've reinstalled everything. Use the windows backup to create a system image and recovery disk. That way if you ever have to do a clean install again, all you do is pop the disk in and restore the image. No need to reinstall everything again!
