Mom

While we're talking about Americanisms, it really cheeses me off to go into a Starbucks and hear people ask to "get a coffee to go"... no, no, no! I'm in Britain so I would please "like a coffee to take away"!

There, I feel better now :)

I can't imagine anyone saying the word mom in an English accent and it not sound retarded. It is very American surely?

Unless of course they are talking to the queen.

I say Mum and am northern, but I have heard mam in other parts of the north but mainly mum.

I do randomly use pants instead of trousers but again that is normal up here, and pants is never used to describe underwear, they are boxers or undies etc.

Born and raised in the Midlands, therefore have always said it mom. I rarely hear people emphasize the u in mum anyway so to me it sounds like mom.

Born and raised in the midlands, therefore have always said it mum. I always hear people emphasizing the 'u' in mum, so being saying 'mom' annoys me.

Even my chrome spell checker says mom is wrong. Google never lies.

Americans are superior to us and will soon rule the world. Most software doesn't have UK packs, we might as well get used to using American, it was only a few hundred years since it was us that moved there anyway.

Because they enjoy irritating me (and others).

However, mom is nowhere near as annoying as 'brought' being used instead of 'bought', which occurs ever more frequently on here (and elsewhere).

Ive always said mom, digging around it seems to be something of a West Midlands thing. Cant bring myself to say mum, always puts me in mind of annoying posh kids.

On that usbject I find it so annoying when people use 'of' instead of 'have'. So many people do it, its not could have, its never should have, its could have, should have etc.
Its so wide spread, it doesnt sound right and I cant work out why people cant see its wrong when its such a glaring error.
