Discussing this with a few housemates...one only buys games for the online multiplayer and another focuses more on the storymode side of things.

I've never played storymode on MW2 and always purchase games for the online side...i think it's just more exciting knowing you're playing real people and not AI. Certainly a better sense of pride when you get a few awesome killstreaks.

Single player for just about everything except MW/Cod games. The single player on those are so generic once you have played one you have played them all.

Depends on the game to be honest. I like a good mix of single and multi.

I'd rather play with mates than randoms, and I'd rather sink my teeth into a good story over that as well.

I used to be 100% multiplayer, but now it's more or less the exact opposite. I love good, cinematic, well told stories. Awesome set pieces, good voice acting, great graphics, I love it all.

For instance, the Modern Warfare campaign got me so pumped, after I finished it I felt really alive and the game had a real affect on me. Multiplayer gaming is fun too, but in a vastly different way, and I think I prefer the former.

Whilst I do enjoy MP, I prefer single player.

There is something about having finished a game/story that is satisfying and I still feel like I achieved something.

With MP, my time playing may have been fun, but there isn't that sense of achievement - it feels more like I just killed some time.

I prefer single player by a country mile, it's very very rare you'd catch me playing online.

That's partly because i suck at most games, particularly games like COD. Although I used to quite enjoy playing GRID online

i prefer single player most of the time, once consoles get a great mmorpg (hopefully FFXIV) things might change but as much as COD and fifa games can be online i much prefer a story and an end in sight more then just kill everyone.

although one of my top games this gen so far is demons souls which is technically single player in style but impliments online perfectly

I basically online play online FPS games these days. SP I like for he introduction....that's done in a few hours then I get online.

I prefer single player or cooperative multiplayer, I like having a goal, sometimes playing competetive online matches just seems so pointless

I never play the single player version if it has multiplayer. I just jump straight in. I havent even played the single player on MW2 yet.

I do however love RDR and am having a great time with the SP story mode in that.

This for me too. I love a good, well told story though, and I gravitate towards RPGs and FPS with RPG aspects for this reason.

I guess I personally lean towards single player games, as I love long games with great stories... which tends to be RPG games. Some games I do still buy purely for online play - such as Bad Company 2. Have never done it's single player game and never intend to.

I get bored being the only human around when I play single player but I also enjoy a half decent goal/storyline, that's why only MMORPGs really interest me.

You forgot the bit about going online. :p

Depends what game it is for me. Games like MGS4 and Uncharted 2 and GTA have online components but I'd buy them solely for the single player. Games like COD though are different, I'll play the single player veteran just to get the trophies / achievements and then I'll just play online where the real fun is. I used to play Forza 2 online for a while but it got slightly tiresome having people just bash you off the track instead of trying to race you properly.

This.
Playing SP mode means you at least don't get pwned by hackers, noobtubers, spawnkillers etc........until you're ready to do so. :D

I tend to play the SP modes before hitting the MP ones. Although most people i know, do it the other way round.

I think that with some MP only games, its a little risky, especially as 'patch fixes' often knackers the game for so many people, leaving them unable to play at all.
At least you could play SP until they fix the damned game.
