Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. With the current architecture they can't make it faster than a 5970 without breaking the 300w barrier which I think is a big issue.
5970 is ~10% faster than SLI GTX460 at stock and uses a lot less watts and the 5970 has a TDP of 300W
As the link said though, they could increase the amount of shaders, which would make it more competitive. As mentioned though, Ati won't be sitting on their laurels, with the SI refresh due by the end of the year.
They are already breaking the 300w limit and getting laughable performance for it.
It would make sense to build this card and it shouldn't take long to cobble together a dual GPU card.
A GTX480 will top 330watts at full tilt.
