*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

Air flow is fine in my case, got a big 200mm fan dumping all the hot air out the top.

Plus i've had a 5770 in there for the past 7 months that's been totally silent.

My system temps haven't changed from going from a 5770 to the GTX460.

The only thing that has is the noise coming from my PC.

Sounds all good then. I still think that exhausting coolers are better for gpus, I guess the ones on 460s are cheaper to produce.

think your right, swear the ocuk 1gb was £189 yesterday

Yeah, it definitely was.

Maybe best of buying a stock 460 with a reference cooler which apparently is excellent going by techpowerups review and it's a given that they will all clock past 800Mhz anyway so save a few quid and go stock then overclock.

Stock cooler looks very good.

Problem is finding a 1GB card with the stock cooler, as most card makers have put their own custom ones on their cards.

I can only assume their testing rigs are running high RPM fans or their office is noisy as hell.

I have used a ton of different GPU's and I can say quite confidently that this Palit is one of the loudest i've ever owned.

The loudest probably being the 3870X2, and the Palit is right up there with it.

Maybe the review cards sent out are different than the retail ones?

But I know what you mean, my GTX 280 is the loudest part of my system, even at idle with the fan % lowered to 30% and the fan running at <1000rpm

Maybe a 3rd party cooler like the Prolimatech MK-13 will fit?

Well the Palit one comes at 4GHz mem stock, which is 400MHz over the normal card, so seems it's fine :D

This is the one i'm looking at now, MSI Cyclone, has a 90mm fan on it (instead of the 70mm on the Palit), and a beefier heatsink.

I think this is an even better design. Hope OCUK are going to get them in.

Twin fans, twin heatsink, this is the one I'm going for.

I've looked at the Giga and reviews say the MSI Cyclone is slightly cooler and slightly quieter. :)

Those temps look alright, what's the noise like with that profile?

At 70% it's going to be loud enough to hear over everything else in your rig.

From my fan testing last night 50% is about the same noise level as an Akasa Apache 120mm.

55% you can hear it over the Apache, but it's not annoying and easily ignored.

60%+ its clearly audible over the Apache and annoying.

Are you particularly sensitive to fan noise? I know I am.

I don't like fan noise, but I'm OK up to a certain level (about that of an Akasa Apache).

What I consider to be a 'whisper quiet' cooler would be those used on the Vapor-X cards. Coolers I can't hear (or can only just hear) over my case fans.

The Palit cooler only achieves that at 50% fan speed or lower, at 55% you can hear it over the case fans, but I can live with it.

At 60% or higher it is IMHO plain noisy.

Does the Gainward GLH use the same cooler as the Palit with just a different shroud? Just ordered a pair, kinda regretting now... eek!

perhaps my PC is noiser than I thought, only on Crysis @ 77c could I hear the GPU fan over my system which has 4 x 120mm Aksa Amber fans in.
I guess I would find your system also noisy, I only have an Enermax Pro82 PSU, one 120mm fan running at <1000rpm on my Megahalems and a GTX 280 at 30%/~980rpm

So fan noise is very subjective, what you find acceptable is horribly loud to another.
