I've got 4 tickets to go to a recording of Top Gear next week!
Has anyone been that could tell me what to expect? (providing i can get the day off work, find people available to come with and can get there that is..)

Congrats, all I have noticed from watching it is they "seem" to get all the hotties to stand at the front :D

^ Pretty much what i was thinking so was wondering what goes on for the 5 hours i hope to be there for.

It does read "You are now officially invited to come hang out with Jeremy Clarkson and the top gear team as they take an entertaining side swipe at the world of cars. Drool over the latest metal, enjoy banter with celebrity guests, and see the stunts that all go together to make up the brilliant, award winning, top gear!"

So i'm guessing it will just be standing in the warehouse whilst they film all the studio bits ?

I went a few years ago and it was great fun :D Our episode was the crossing of the channel in their carboats one. Basically you go into the hangar, can mill around looking at whatever cars they have in for that show and then they start filming. Whilst a lot is prerecorded, they did a lot of filming in the studio. We had one thing they did that wasnt in that weeks episode, but used for another one later in the series. You get to meet the presenters at the interval, if you can get close ;)

Im guessing they talk you through the cars? let people sit inside them, get a feel for them maybe? just a thought.

I went last year. It's alright. I was surprised at how little they have to re-do things.

My legs absolutely killed though, on your feet for a few hours not moving much apart from when they change position in the studio

I got on TV, was quite lucky, was at the back for most of it, then when they moved to the next segment, I happened to be right at the front without even moving. I was on TV for a whole 2 minutes

No, not even close. If you even touch any of the cars they moan at you and come out and polish them again

there is no organisation at all. you just get a portion of the audiance there who are hell bent on "being on the telly" and clearly that includes the attention seeking hotties you see on TV

when i went (episode when damon hill came on) it was insanely hot, 30* ambient outside, then 200ppl in a hanger with multiple lighting rigs

so these morons were rooting themselves around the stage to get their 20 seconds of fame at the cost of absolutely baking themselves under the lights.

typical sad acts tbh

oh really  They should atleast let you look inside shouldn't they

Oh you can look inside. But if you try and touch them or open the doors or anything like that. A member of the studio crew will come over with a cloth and wipe it down and promptly tell you to leave it alone :p

We got a biscuit and cup of tea when we went :)

It was years ago now (the V8 Audi diesel doing going up and down the country and James and Richard kipping in a Smart 4 thingy)

Most noticeable thing whilst being there is JC with a fag in one hand a can of Red Bull in the other - having never seen him like that before it seemed out of place.

Wife got a pic with Hammond which was pretty much the only reason for going.

Its a long day, think you have to be there for one and in the studio / hanger for two, you are standing for a long time so where comfy shoes, it is a good laugh and Clarkson and crew have a good laugh between shots. I was at the Guy Ritchie show.

That sounds like they should be paying for us to go on the show. Thanks for confirming that I should avoid volunteering for this.

it is scripted a bit, but they don't mess about, they had us laughing and cheering for nothing turning round and then Clarkson would come on, its just for the cameras etc. Its worth going if your into topgear, but like somebody else has said most go because they think they will get on TV. Oh and have a pee before you go into the studio as we had to wait quite a while for a break.

Went last year with -westy- and Phate. Was good fun seeing the stuff before it's on the TV. You can meet the guys too although they will be much more photo taking and signature scribbling than hanging around to talk to you.

When they have to redo stuff that is funny it gets a bit boring and unfunny though.

They will also film segments that won't ever be shown on TV, I was at the front for one of the segments they filmed...I guess my face was too horrendous for TV as it was never shown. :(

I've always noticed on TG that the sound of laughter never matches up with the viewable audience (The audience is in shot with absolutely no reaction, but a huge roar of laughter is heard from nowhere), so I imagine it would be very quiet in the Studio compared to the TV showing.

It really isn't quiet. It's probably the people at the front feeling awkward at having to laugh on camera, all the laughter is fairly loud on set.

I'm with InvaderGIR here, its quite loud, its also very hot, two girls collapsed, there was an ambulance on set all day, must happen a lot.
