Imagine the future.

I think everyone will be dead, there will be some kind of religious war.

The cold war was cold because of MAD (mutually assured destruction). But when one side (taliban etc) doesnt care if they die, then you have simple AD (assured destruction).

In the present, yes, in the future, you never know.

Iran
Syria
Parts of Russia
Korea
All dodgy countries that have been after nukes for ages especially Iran.
China have been strengthening their military the last few years...why ?

We will develop a working nanotechnology with nanties and destroy everything due to a nanite programmer coming into work with a hangover and writing some bad code!!

The reason Startrek works is because they have loads of energy and can then make stuff from the energy, with that kind of technology you can't really not have it sorted.

I do believe that with such an abundance of resources the human race would cooperate much more.

History has shown this is the case generally.

Until then it will a capitalist hell hole like Judge Dredd like Blade runner or something.

Robots and Ai would be sweet also.

We may have abundant energy within 50-100 years (fusion), but in order to get to the society in Star Trek we need to understand E=mc^2, so that we can create matter from pure energy

I think money is humanity's greatest flaw. It divides us greater than anything. If we can overcome money we can go some way towards working as a race as opposed to as individuals.

Exactly, Star Trek is the ultimate marxist utopia but it only works because we are released from the constraints of resources.

I don't imagine replicators are feasible but if we do manage to haul ourselves into a position of abundant cheap energy things will change.

The talk of food shortages aren't about food, it's about energy. With enough energy London could feed itself with hydroponics in tower blocks (of course they'd still ship it up the M6 to Warrington, put it in a pretty bag then ship it back again).

Absolutely Telescopi, energy is at the root of all resource issues. With abundant energy pretty much all constraints fall away. Unfortunately the laws of physics are quite strict when it comes to energy accounting which makes virtually unlimited energy a distant dream.

I dunno, replication may be possible ... it is simply based on E=mc^2 after all, so if you can create and arrange matter you can create anything you want ... but that is a long way off

No it doesn't, fusion is the answer and will be here within 50-100 years.
