I'm on the lookout for a new job and i was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best places to look for software or IT specific jobs as obviously there are a lot of job websites out there but most of them are very general.

At the minute www.cwjobs.co.uk and www.jobsite.co.uk and the ones that seem to have a decent amount of stuff.

Generally I just sign up to the sites and wait for agents to contact me.

http://careers.stackoverflow.com/ looks like it has potential as a jobs site, but it's a little too sparse for UK based jobs at present.

If you fancied getting into consultancy I know that Detica have recently opened a Manchester office and are no doubt recruiting.

Well i've updated my CV, joined a couple of job sites and submitted my CV to a handful of IT specialist agents, we'll see where that gets me.

The trouble with approaching companies directly is knowing who is about to go to - the big boys only have a few jobs and very rarely in the right area.

As an example there are some really fun looking jobs at Jaguar at the moment for in car entertainment software engineering - but based in Coventry so it's not practical for me to be honest, i didn't really want to have to move. (although it may become a requirement)

Jobsite and JobServe are the 2 that come immediately to mind for IT work. Also, Arbraxas deal in IT jobs.
