Crash

Not watched the vid but if it is like this then its a pretty pointless vid.

The video is a collection of car accidents.

Some of them are staged accidents made as part of road safety videos (Most of these are from Australia and New Zealand where these adverts are allowed to be quite brutal), the rest are a mix various youtube videos of crashes such as the infamous one of that truck in a tunnel which fails to stop and crushes a car, and the American big rig which crosses to the other carriageway, collides head on with another truck, and bursts into flames, and extracts from US cop chase shows.

It is overlaid with 'My Immortal' by Evenescence which is played on repeat.

a number of the videos contain entirely pointless accidents that just wouldnt happen in real life, or if they did, couldnt be averted because they were left nowhere to go.

A further number were from police chase footage showing cars running away from the cops and crashing.

So yes. i've learnt my lesson that if a cop pulls me, not to run away. Oh and that if an artic crosses the central reservation and starts comming my way i'm *****ed.

Is there a particular reason why you are acting as if I'm the only person in the thread who hasn't said 'Wow, that video is amazing, I'm sure going to change my driving'?

I've said nothing that others have not - infact actually there are a number of less eloquent comments in this thread. At least I've taken the trouble to highlight why I take issue with this video.

Because the/your first reply was questioning why I had posted the video (without having possibly watched it all) which I had already explained. I have no intentions of lecturing anybody but merely wished to raise awareness of how dangerous the roads and other drivers can be. Not to mentioned how quickly life can be lost. But from the replies in this thread it appears only 2 or 3 have taken it on board, which is better than none.

I have a general problem with sensationalist media :)

Sometimes it's what's required.

Ironically the video you have posted is very 'pesimistic, condescending and patronising', so obviously you dont have that much of an issue with such things?

This if of course how you percieve the video not suprisingly I don't percieve it like that at all.

Exactly my point. Quite why I am then singled out by the OP for being 'patronising' I've no idea. It seems that there is not a single reply in this thread which indicates anyone thinks anything good of this video..

It even has Top Gear footage - I've heard that's all scripted anyway?

oh yeah thats another lesson learnt, if you cross over a level crossing when the barriers are going down, your car could get crushed.

No **** sherlock !!

People that die that way are victims of natural selection.

You don't find blatantly staged accidents which in reality would almost never happen in the way they are potrayed, which are then mixed with shocking amounts of graphic gore, are in any way patronising ?

At the very least you've got to admit there is some 'pesimistic' in there?

I mean two cars crashing into each other with such force that one rolls? Then not only does it roll, but it continues to roll until it eventually crushes to death a young boy who was embracing his beautiful girlfriend sat on a wall in the middle of nowhere minding their own business.

You don't think thats at all 'pesimistic'? Or sensationalist?

It's almost as bad as that ridiculous 'texting and driving' one a few months back where once the girls have crashed and died horrifically in a horrible head on collision, another car appears from nowhere, on the wrong side of the road, and steams into the wreckage seemingly for no apparent reason whatsoever. That one was so cringingly bad I half expected the air ambulance to crash into the wreckage as well.

I can honnestly say I don't find it patronising.

I think if people should more time considering the affects of such incidents instead of analysing how inaccurate the construction of the video may be.

For example the families of the people involved and killed in RTA's and thought about how you would feel if you were ever unfortunatley placed in their shoes having lost a loved one, spouse or relative? or even accidentaly having taken life yourself. Nobody should find this patronising.

Of course however an optimistic road safety video where the admitedly often exaggerated affects of dangerous/drunk/stupid driving aren't shown aren't going to open peoples eyes to the dangers.

If you didn't think you needed reminding why not just say so? as opposed to tear a video of clips (mostly, excusing the car chases) intended to do good apart.

I think it highlights an important point. In order to get through to people, videos like this must be realistic. They need to be right. They need to make even people like me think...

'****, that could happen to me!'

As it is these videos just make most of us think how utterly ridiculous they are and how totally irrelevent, unlikely and sensationalist the scenarios are. I doubt anyone here has taken away any sort of message from it at all.

Who knows what effect it might have had were it credible and well put together?

Its just a load of crass, gratuitous and pointless clips stitched together in windows movie maker. Frankly I think it's an absolute load of ****.

Some of the stuff depicted is so ridiculous, you wouldn't even see it in hollywood. I'm sorry but I can understand why this has sparked so much resentment.
