First off, I'd rather not like this to descend into a typical ocuk 'send them back' thread. Yeah, you know what I mean.. :p

I'll be very blunt and to the point with this, my title was somewhat misleading, I'm referring specifically to Asian individuals/families, born here or not.

Unfortunately I currently subsidise my education with retail work, it's mid market goods, quite expensive goods...

To begin with, a lot of them seem to shop 5 minutes before closing time. My GF thought it was completely exaggerated but after shopping one night we sat in the car deciding where to eat out - exactly 5 minutes before closing times, on this occasion roughly 6 separate cars, all entirely unrelated descended on the car park as it was emptying. My GF was in a fit of laughter. Now, I have zero problem with anyone avoiding the rush but every few nights you get the odd couple who stay 15 minutes after closing time, shutters half way down, staff standing around waiting but you're completely ignored, not a word and very much looked down upon. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it was almost for the free, undisturbed shopping experience without a care in the world for closing times.

Secondly, their rude and often indirectly insulting behaviour when it comes to shopping and generally the way they treat people, myself and colleagues in particular is pretty poor.

It's a very small minority and I hate saying it but their always Asian? I'd just like to understand why there's such inconsiderate and rude behaviour?

Of course you do but it's miniscule compared to the volume of ignorant, rude Asian people I face every other week therefore I can completely justify asking. :)

Apologies, I should've worded my opening post better. By that I was trying not to label all Asian individuals rude or inconsiderate which I know they aren't.

Where do you work? Maybe there are certain practices to shopping in the shop you work at from 'back home' which they've carried on over here.

I almost exclusively do my food shopping at ASDA/Morrisins etc after midnight, for almost the same reasons you describe.

People, in large groups, tend to **** me off. Dithering and not looking where they are going etc. Slow moving, stop in stupid places. etc

I find it far far more relaxing and less of a chore when I can walk around much less hectically.

I won't say where but it's in a shopping centre, mainly accessible by car. Fortunately you can see the car park from our store so it's not just us.

I agree, I avoid the rush like the plague but coming in 5 minutes before the entire mall closes on a Sunday evening(for example) and staying 15 minutes after every shop has closed is a tad excessive especially when I have staff waiting to leave.

I guess the size of the store you can't rally them all up to tell them to leave after official closing times?

Asia's a big place... I think you'll find the shopping habits of indians/chinese/japanese/vietnamese/malaysians/taiwanese/koreans etc etc to be very different.

Hardly fair to suggest that all asians shop the same way. I suspect you're refering to a more specific demographic, but are afraid to be specific for fear of being accused of racism.

It's a very small store, somewhere up the ladder they've decided customer service is first and foremost and we're not allowed to ask them to leave. The store is empty long before closing times most nights.

Then turn up late and see how they like it or ask for more money.

Annoys me when companies do this.

Different people in different parts of the world have different cultures when it comes to things like shopping. We are all different.

It all works, until you merge it all, then you get these threads :p

In most stores you'll get a tannoy announcement "Would all customers please make their way to the checkouts as the store is now closing".

If you keep the store open a bit longer every day for people that arrived just before closing, they'll continue to arrive at that time, every time. I.e. at the moment, there's no reason to change their time of going to the store.
